Y oh Y?

Today’s words :-

55Yoicks – Expression of surprise

Yeuk to itch

Yex – to hiccup, belch

Yieldless – unyielding

Yirding – to burying

I don’t just like hot spicy food,  I love it.  So when a friend challenged me to a curry-off at a restaurant that’s famous for setting people on fire (not literally of course!) I accepted.

The dish looked scrummy.  It smelled amazing.  The steam was so zesty it made my eyes water.  We held our forks to our chests.

One … two … three … go!

I shovelled the first load into my mouth.

‘Yoicks’ I yelled, louder than I intended, and a restaurant full of red sweaty faces turned in my direction.

‘Sorry’  I croaked.

My friend was storming ahead of me.  A quick swig of water and I was off again.  Mistake, water makes it worse so I stuffed my mouth with raita which calmed me down, albeit slightly!

I began to regret taking him on.  I started to yeuk, all over.  But undaunted I continued, eating with one hand, scratching with the other.

Then I began to yex.  Hic, burp, hic, burp.  I couldn’t stop, it was yieldless.

Yirding my pride,  I admitted defeat.

That was yesterday. Last night I tossed and turned, wrapped in my sweat-soaked bedsheets, hopping out of bed every now and again to drink milk or nip to the loo.  I still haven’t recovered so I’ve rung in sick to work.

Oh no, here we go again.  Sorry, must dash to the bathroom … quick, quick, quick …

You poor thing! There are some plants that grow on this earth than just aren’t meant for human consumption — or only in the tiniest amounts. 🙂

Oh I hope it’s not too bad. I’m a strict no no for everything spicy. I can understand must have been doubly upsetting. Losing and being stung by spices!

Cute story. I don’t mind a little spice, but hot-hot is not my thing. And thanks for the ‘yex’ word. I’ve used yeuk in Scrabble but not yex. I must see if it works.

Ouch! Big time. Tiniest peppers are the hottest. 😀 It’s going to burn in more places than one, lol.

Fabulously entertaining story to read, but not doubt a little less so to experience. I’m guessing next time you take on that kind of challenge, you’ll remember to keep the water further out of reach. 🙂

Oh gosh, that’s bad. With spicy, hot food, a storm in the stomach is always a prediction. Y oh Y, really.

Haha! This was really funny. I like my curries very spicy too but luckily, my body is adapted to handling hot curries. 😀 Perks of being a South Indian. 🙂

I love very spicy and hot food, my friends think I’m crazy! You have a built in advantage over most of us Shweta

Many of my friends think so too. Maybe it’s because I’m the only one who can carry on eating while they sniff their noses, reach for their tissues and water! 😀

Never understood the point of this uniquely male phenomenon Keith–Y oh Y indeed?
But if you must, take a large swig of lassi before you start and keep cooling mint or cucumber raita handy.

I know my limits when it comes to spicy hot food, but my better half sometimes takes on more than he can stomach….we went to a Thai restaurant once that described the spiciest as Dragon Fire …he had some and gasped and requested a big glass of coconut milk….that calmed it down! But he said “Never again”!

That was a funny tale, though not funny narrator. I also don’t like food which is very spicy.

For some reason, my comment hasn’t appeared!
I said this was a funny tale, though not for the narrator. I too don’t like food that is very spicy.

Some do, some don’t – the narrator thought he did…! Thanks for persevering!
