Short stories featuring musical instruments and those who play them!

w1Sometimes whilst walking among the trees she saw him. They played hide and seek for a few moments then he was gone. Her friends said she imagined him, the sun playing games with its shadows they said. But she knew different.

He sat cross-legged on a tree stump, in one hand a piece of willow, in the other a shiny pocket knife.  He chipped, smoothed, hollowed and whittled until the little wooden whistle was perfect; a token of his love for a fair maiden with a promise that whenever she blew a merry tune in the forest he would appear.

One day she dropped it as she bid him farewell.  She saw neither her whistle nor him again

Each day she walks among the trees seeking the stump near which one passionate summer’s day she lost her little wooden whistle.

Another tale of woe, this about a wandering wooden whistle. May she once again find her willow-carved whistle.

Such a lovely story Keith. Perhaps it wasn’t meant to be.

I love this fairy tale. Was the woodland Velvet Green by any chance?

Another Jethro Tull classic. I’d like to think so!

Hi Keith – so sad … but a beautiful fairy tale … the way one should be written. Congratulations – Hilary

Poignant is the tune cupid plays.
This read like a fairy tale. Lovely.

What a spritely coming of age story. Brings me back to my youth, wandering in the woods, making up stories. Very nostalgic like that.

What a lovely, enchanted tale! I do hope she finds the whistle again. ‘He’ might be kind and help her find it!
