Short stories featuring musical instruments and those who play them!
Composer Richard Strauss once said ‘the human voice is the most beautiful instrument of all, but it is the most difficult to play’ So today I’m setting aside the saxophone, the snare drum and the spoons and we’re going to have a go at Singing a Song together!.
‘

A girl sits alone on the grass. In her hand, a flickering candle. ‘All you need is love’ she whispers.
One by one the village folk join her. ‘Love is all you need’ they sing.
Somewhere in Russia, a devushka wanders into a square clutching a candle. Minutes later the square is filled with people singing. ‘Vvse, chto tebe nuzhno – eto lyubov’. All you need is love.
Across the Latin world, joyful crowds gather. ‘Todo lo que necesitas es amor’ they sing as golden flames dance to the tune.
Across Africa, Asia and the Middle East people join in song.
In war-torn countries, they lay down their arms and pick up candles. Sworn enemies sing together. ‘Kl ma tahtaj ‘iilayh hu alhabu’.
The world is illuminated by candles, brightened by song. To the east, south, north, and the farthest west they sing.
Suddenly our planet becomes a happy place as we sing as one, ‘All you need is love’.
Then all falls quiet again.

A girl sits alone on the grass. ‘Love is all we need’ she whispers.

Aww, this is a lovely dream.
Thank you so much Sadje.
You’re welcome my friend
Ah, if only! Which brings me to “Imagine”. I do like the image of so many candles lighting up the world as the melody of “All You Need Is Love” reverberates around the globe.
As you say Gail, if only. Thank you.
A lovely little story. Thanks.
I’m pleased you liked it, thanks Denise.
Sweet! Maybe for some people “bittersweet.”
Exactly Christine. Thanks so much.
How nice it would be! Someday, when the world is made new.
We can only hope Mimi.
Such beautiful, hopeful imagery. Sadly, I would not be able to join in as I can’t carry a tune but I applaud the sentiment. Weekends In Maine
That’s good enough for me!

Truth! If only, we could get our heads/hearts/hands around it and live it. Love your story! 🌷
One day, hopefully. Thanks so much.
This was beautiful to read. Even if momentarily, I felt all was well with the world again. Thank you Keith. This was a much needed read. God Bless.

Thank you so much.
Lovely sentiment, music certainly can bring us all together – although my own vocal talents may spoil the mood, so I will just enjoy listening!
Oh, go on. It’s the thought that counts! Cheers Iain.
What a beautiful story. I heard the song in my head as I read. Indeed, all we need is love!
I’m pleased, thanks for you lovely comment Brenda.
