I remember going to a posh restaurant in DC and when my grandson asked for ketchup, they told us that they don’t serve ketchup! 😱

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 27, 2022 / 11:56

What? No ketchup? Tell him to take his own next time!

      • Sadje's avatar Sadje January 27, 2022 / 13:14

If we ever go there again!

If it’s this one place I’ve heard about – a fancy burger joint(?) they will kick you out of you bring ketchup or anything to taint their food. I read about this somewhere. And thought, nope. LOL. Much rather go to this restaurant!

      • pennygadd51's avatar pennygadd51 January 28, 2022 / 12:34

        Bet they’d charge corkage…

      • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 28, 2022 / 14:17

As an ex-restaurateur myself I take back the suggestion about taking his own, Anne!

      • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 28, 2022 / 14:18

Corkage, now that’s an idea Penny!

Ketchup on everything – you can’t go wrong with it 🙂

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 27, 2022 / 12:02

I agree. It’s worth keeping a few of those little sachets in your pocket just in case!

  3. pensitivity101's avatar pensitivity101 January 26, 2022 / 18:06

The boyfriend of a work colleague had tomato ketchup on everything………… even his Sunday roast dinner with gravy…………… and I thought ex partner was bad with brown sauce but at least he didn’t put it on a roast dinner!

      • pensitivity101's avatar pensitivity101 January 27, 2022 / 18:45

        I couldn’t watch him eat!

      • pennygadd51's avatar pennygadd51 January 28, 2022 / 12:37

I had a college friend who used to adulterate his roast chicken with vinegar and curry sauce from the local Chinese (yes, Chinese) restaurant. To be fair, I don’t think it would have made the taste of the roast chicken any worse. I’m sure the birds were all fed on fishmeal.

      • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 28, 2022 / 14:23

That sounds awful Penny! As he likes vinegar he’d probably enjoy Connie’s next visit, the Vin au Gare!

He doesn’t stand it, but knows that all love Tomato Ketchup 🙂
    Interesting.
Santa’s dress won’t be stained for sure 🙂

    Funny!
I haven’t written this week, but that just looks like ‘an eye in the sky’ to me. ELO!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 27, 2022 / 12:57

Now you come to mention it! I played Sky in the Sky by the Alan Parsons Project a couple of times yesterday!

      • trishsplace's avatar trishsplace January 28, 2022 / 21:56

Ha ha! I thought ELO, duh 🙂

I remember a gentleman is Ireland who remarked to me “can’t understand you yanks that put ketchup on your fries.”

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 27, 2022 / 13:01

Now you’ve got me wondering if I’ve ever seen ketchup in Ireland!

  8. rochellewisoff's avatar rochellewisoff January 27, 2022 / 12:08

    Dear Keith,

This made me laugh out loud. Actually the place was a barbecue restaurant. Very astute that you caught the group of Santas. We actually did, too. Our friend John is a professional Santa who assembled the group years ago. This was their first get together in two years. We were so happy to see our buddy. 😀

Love your story and your delightful reading.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 27, 2022 / 13:15

It’s surprising what you see when you enlarge a picture on the screen! As barbecue restaurants go, that looks like a pretty special one. I feel some ribs coming on!

      • rochellewisoff's avatar rochellewisoff January 27, 2022 / 13:55

Their burnt ends weren’t too bad. Of course seeing a friend I hadn’t seen in quite a while made it even better. 😀

  9. Elizabeth Young's avatar Elizabeth Young January 27, 2022 / 14:49

Reminds me of Pop Larkin – he had ketchup on everything!

  10. GHLearner's avatar GHLearner January 27, 2022 / 23:15

Mr. Tom Ketch sure knows his business. I love it, the breathless fake excitement of the journalist/presenter included.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 28, 2022 / 14:33

Not the most forthcoming interviewee, so Connie had to add a bit of a punch!

  11. msjadeli's avatar msjadeli January 28, 2022 / 03:47

Keith you read that just right. Reminds me of some Laurel and Hardy sketches.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 28, 2022 / 14:41

…now you come to mention it! Thanks so much, Lisa.

      • msjadeli's avatar msjadeli January 28, 2022 / 17:48

        You’re most welcome, Keith.

  12. Margaret's avatar Margaret January 28, 2022 / 08:09

Funny. He’s an astute businessman, obviously. And why oh why is that sauce so popular?

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 28, 2022 / 14:45

Good point, it does cancel out the flavour of whatever it’s squirted on. So why do I like it so much?

  13. James McEwan's avatar James McEwan January 28, 2022 / 09:07

I think there is too much sauce in this story, some people have simple tastes. I like the occasional HP Brown sauce on my mince–not too much, just a dab.

  14. Bill's avatar Bill January 28, 2022 / 10:28

I agree with Tom. But then, there is no accounting for taste. Well conceived, Keith. 🙂

  15. pennygadd51's avatar pennygadd51 January 28, 2022 / 12:40

Heehee! Tom Ketch gave a very frank interview, didn’t he? Nice sketch about Tom Ketch.

Well done for spotting the Santas because I didn’t! I loved your recording and your story and I wish I were a roving restaurant reporter like lucky Connie.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings January 28, 2022 / 15:35

There they were, lurking in the corner! I wasn’t a reporter but before covid, I was a mystery diner secretly checking up on foody pubs for a national chain. That was fun!

I know people who put ketchup on EVERYTHING! Amazing.

Either way, never was a fan.
