A-Z of Children’s Stories – day 26

Grandad was fast asleep in his armchair. He was snoring very loudly. Zac was sitting at the table with his tin of watercolour paints and his colouring book.

‘Grandma,’ said Zac, ‘can you stop Grandad snoring please?’

Grandma gave him a little shake. Grandad made a huffing sound, then the snoring stopped.

Zac went back to his colouring then suddenly Grandad started snoring again. ‘Oh no!’ cried Zac.

He jumped down from his chair, walked over to Grandad and prodded him. He kept snoring. Zac put his hand over Grandad’s mouth. That didn’t work either so he tried squeezing Grandad’s nose. That just made it worse.

He took one of Grandad’s slippers off and tried tickling his foot. No.

‘You won’t stop him’ said Grandma as she got up and walked out to the kitchen. Suddenly Zac had a fantastic idea!

First, he brushed some red paint on Grandad’s cheeks, then some yellow paint on his nose. Then he painted black glasses around his eyes a black beard on his chin! He was still snoring his head off!

Grandma came back in the room with a tray of tea and biscuits. When she saw Grandad she yelped and almost dropped the tray! Then she started laughing and so did Zac.

All the commotion woke Grandpa up. ‘Have you finished your painting Zac?’ he asked.

‘Yes Grandad’ chuckled Zac.

‘What are you both laughing at?’ he yawned.

‘Nothing!’ said Zac and Grandma together.

‘Grandad’ said Zac, ‘can you take me to the swings, please? My friends will all be there’

‘Okay, come on then’ said  Grandad.

Tomorrow –

Wednesday is prompt day at Friday Fictioneers!  Normal service will be resumed.

In 2018 – My Friend Rosey hijacked my blog!

In 2017 –  In Amble Bay dear old Arthur  passed away

So, that’s it! Tomorrow is the first of May, pinch bum day – at least, it was when I was at school! Thank you so much for reading my stories and for entertaining me with your alphabet of posts during April. I’m not sure if I’ll do it again next year, maybe five years of taking part are enough particularly as the number of flash fiction writers taking part has gone from lots and lots to very very few! I’m off for one last play in the park….coming?

Grandpa is up for some good time there. Missed catching up on your A-Z stories, Keith. Guess I will eventually. But my all time favourite will always be the unabashed, lovely lass Rosey.

Bravo Keith! You nailed it like always.
See you on the other side soon! 🙂 #WordlessWednesday maybe.

Rosey is a bit miffed that I’ve gone a month without mentioning her, particularly as she was the star of the show last year! It’ll be good to get back to normal,

A delightful story. I wouldn’t want to be in the grandpa’s shoes.

You had me smiling and giggling with this story. Poor Grandpa is going to be quite surprised when he looks in the mirror. Hopefully, he’s a kind and gentle grandpa and won’t lose his stack. I rather hope you continue with the A2Z challenge next year. I think your stories are such a delight. I’m not much of flash fiction reader…come to think of it I’m not much of reader other than of blogs. The point is most stuff is too involved but your tales are sweet and simple always bringing a smile to my face. You really have a gift! It’s been such fun sharing the 10th blogfest with you and congratulations on a fine job!

I’d like to think he took it well! As you say, much of the fiction has been lengthy and sometimes serialised which I’ve found from my many years of blogging, puts people off reading, including me! Next year? We’ll see. Thank you so much for entertaining me with your Little Mermaid sketches. Simply delightful.

Your stories are so much fun, i hope you do it next year, too.

This reminds me of what a friend and her sister once did to their grandpa in a similar situation. He got up from the nap in the chair and didn’t realize they’d played beauty shop and put tiny pink bows all through his hair and very long white beard. He went to the gas station and came home not understanding why everyone had looked at him so oddly!

I teased my dad about his snoring and he joked, “I don’t snore. I stayed up all night one night to see if I snored and I didn’t.”

Wonderful posts again this year! And I hope you’ll continue.

Oh, Grandad got “punked” good that time. Since Grandma laughed, too, at least Zak won’t get in trouble for painting his face. You have taken us on quite a ride with all your fun stories this month, Keith. Thank for all the entertaining tales. I hope you find a good publisher for them.
