Peter was at war with his neighbour Paul, over a pear tree. The dispute came about because a branch or two of Peter’s tree hung over Paul’s fence. As far as Paul was concerned the fruit on his side belonged to him. However, Peter disagreed and said the fruit was legally his and should therefore be returned to his side of the fence.
There was more than enough for both of them so Paul couldn’t understand what the problem was. It all came to head one morning when Paul threw a pear at Peter’s window leaving a squidgy mess all over the glass. Peter rushed out to the garden and faced his foe, just a fence between them.
They stared eachother in the eye. The atmosphere was tense. Birdsong ceased, a hedgehog looked on, a rabbit hopped off and a cat thought it wise to take cover.
A battle began. Pears flew this way and that, hard ones, soft ones, big ones, small ones. They ducked, they dived, they flung, they tossed.
Passing strangers stopped and watched. At first a couple, then quite a few.
It went on untiI Peter and Paul’s wives got cross with them and told them not to be so childish. They insisted they shake hands and agree to share the crop in accordance to which side of the divide they hung or dropped. If not, they would have to forgo certain marital rights; choosing television progammes, sharing chocolate biscuits, that kind of thing.
They reluctantly acquiesced and to this day the pearable is told every time a similar neighbourly problem arises..

Thanks to Sadje for hosting What Do You See?

Haha! You’ve drawn a very vivid imagery of this feud. I’m glad the wives had more sense than their husbands. A fun story Keith. Thanks for joining in.
Thanks so much, Sadje, thanks too for hosting.
It’s a great pleasure
love your ‘pearable’!
Haha, thanks, Beth!
Nice one.
Thanks, Di!
Haha. That was a fun read. Great take on the prompt, Keith. I’m glad that their wives managed to talk some sense into them.
They wouldn’t dare argue with that pair!
As usual you gave me a good chuckle, Keith. And, as usual, the wisdom of wives prevails! 🍐
Wisdom of wives…. mmm, you never met my lot!
War over pears? Walnuts or pecans I could understand, but not pears.
Fun story!
Fighting with pears is nuts!
Oh dear oh dear… so many pears being dropped. Maybe they should make some cider/perry?!😉
Oh, yes! I love a drop of perry!
“the pearable” 😂 I can’t even! I just lost it there hahaha
It’s similar to an appleogue I once heard!
