I hate litter. I really do. So much so, that I sometimes think becoming a street sweeper might have been a more worthy career to have pursued.
I belong to a group that regularly patrols our beach dressed in fetching yellow hi-vis jackets with black sacks in one hand and litter-grabbers in the other. You would not believe the amount we collect on a warm summer’s evening after the tourists have departed. The people that soil our beach are probably the same ones that throw rubbish from their car windows as they head home.
That brings me to my pet hate, junk left at the roadside; everything from old fridges to soiled mattresses.
I was enjoying a drive in the countryside the other day when I was overwhelmed by a desire to relieve myself. I don’t consider having a wee behind a bush constitutes littering, though some of my colleagues might disagree!
Having found somewhere to stop, I left my car and and found a position in which I’d be suitably concealed. It was then I saw it.
What I discovered took garbage disposal to another level. It was a body. A dead body. The blood stained body of a man. I couldn’t just leave it there.
As it happens there was a waste bin close by, so I did the decent thing and used all the strength I could muster to pop the corpse inside where it belonged.
I’m litter-picking at the village fete tomorrow. It’s all go!

Woah!
Thanks, Beth!
We are as one on the litter front, good sir, I find it insufferable that cretins leave their debris behind in beauty spots, on country walks, in parks and on beaches.
And empty their cars, ash-trays et al, into the gutter.
So full marks to you for tidying away someone else’s carelessly disposed of corpse.
Well done, sir!
Thank you CE. There’s a passageway leading to my little block of flats and even my neighbours dump rubbish there, yesterday I spent 2 hours cleaning it up!
Don’t you just hate it when people leave their litter?
And you’re right, leaving a corpse behind takes carelessness to a whole new level.
There should be a law against it.
Oh wait… 🤔
Fun story, Keith, and full marks for the litter gathering – yes, even the corpse!
I do hate it! Sadly many don’t. Thanks, Jenne!
Oh Keith. You are just too much sometimes. But, I had a good laugh.
I’ll take take that as a compliment!!! Thanks so much, Denise!
Hope people understand and do the needful before disrupting the environment with trash. All the best!
If only they did. Thanks, Kritika.
Welcome 🙂
Litterbugs bug the daylights out of me.
Next time you find a corpse, though, you might wish to notify an undertaker or mortician instead, after all, they dispose of such things regularly.
Fun story!
I didn’t think of that, I’ll bear it in mind!
Another well told tale. Yes, litter is disgusting — and bodies are totally beyond the pale.
Very pale! Thanks Christine!

Whoops! Having WP issues today. 🙁
That was going a bit too far with cleaning up
Now you come to mention it!
🤣
What a sensible man. Litter’s litter. I can imagine your narrator’s disgust at the discovery of the corpse. I’m reminded of Lady Bracknell’s line in ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ – “To lose one parent may be regarded as a misfortune–to lose both seems like carelessness.”
I do admire his diligence and public-spiritedness.
Very entertaining.
errr…. Dude?
lol ok, perfect story, we all identified with the MC* We all smiled and snarled in solidarity.
then the punch line!
