She was waxing lyrical about the benefits of burning candles. The look, the aroma, the ambience. She flapped her hand and watched as the flame flickered.
‘A quivering flame relaxes the mind and body, reducing stress and anxiety’ she said.
‘Yes dear’, I replied.
‘Just look’ she said as molten wax trickled down the candle, ‘that’s life, we follow the light as we travel from one chapter to the next and leave a trail of spent time in our wake’.
‘Yes dear, but be careful it doesn’t stain the table’
She sniffed, then sniffed again. I handed her a tissue thinking her nose was running, but she swept it aside.
‘Inhale it’, she enthused, ‘the fragrant scent of vanilla imparting a sense of tranquillity and calm’.
‘Yes dear, but right now I’d rather be smelling supper, what are we having?’
‘Candles feed the mind, nourish the soul, satisfy our cravings’, she enthused.
‘Yes dear’, I said, ‘but I need to fill my belly!’
She blew out the flame and watched as a wisp of smoke twisted upward, ‘It will come to all of us you know, death is the only thing in life that’s certain’.
‘Yes dear, but you really are beginning to get on my wick!’
‘Ah, the wick’, she said…

‘Oh dear’ is right! Typical of too many couples; not listening to the other, not speaking to each other… But you did make this funny 😉

I know that feeling! Why do you think I’m single now?😀

You and me both, Keith. Well… I have a long-distance thing going on which works for me 😉

This is a hilarious story Keith. One is concentrating on the spiritual and the other on the material aspects of life. Thanks for joining in.

I enjoy a scented candle when I need to relax. Doesn’t seem to work for these too. Wonderful, funny story, Keith. You would be an amazing comedian.

Me too, Mason!
What a lovely thing to say, unfortunately, I’m not one for public speaking as a rule!

I know what you mean. The idea of being in front of a room full of people and having to perform is terrifying.

It’s all well and good to wax poetic until a man gets hungry.
