I was getting fed up with having to strain my memory every time I needed to remember something, which is why I now have a little book of reminders, although that’s not entirely true because I seem to have lost it.

I always kept it in the same place, and whenever I thought of something that might need attention in the future, I jotted down a few words to remind myself; birthdays, doctor’s appointments, funerals and the like, but I simply can’t remember where it is I keep the little book that jogs my memory.

Is it a sign that I’m about to lose what’s left of my dwindling ability to retain the little knowledge I require to carry me through the autumn of my life?

Last Wednesday, or was it Friday, I couldn’t find something I needed to take with me when I went shopping, but I went anyway, and when I reached the shop I wasn’t even certain that it was the right one, anyhow I bought something or other, and when I went to pay, I remembered what it was I’d forgotten – my money; or was it my credit card, or my wallet?

Recently I reluctantly moved out of my house and into a home for people such as me, and yesterday or the day before, when I returned from a walk, I had trouble getting my key to turn in the lock, and while I was fiddling with it the door suddenly flew open and standing before me was Susan or Sarah or Sonya or whoever it was that moved into my old place; I’d only gone to my previous address!

Did I tell you I can’t remember where I left my little book of reminders?

A sad and funny story. I hope none of us get to this stage.

Hell becomes the moment we are aware of loosing what makes us, us.

Ho ho, I can find the book, it’s just that can’t read it. Where are my spectacles?

    Excellent, Keith!!
Yesterday I was brushing my granddaughter’s hair and I couldn’t find the elastic tieback which I swore I had placed on my dressing table. Hours later I found it … on my finger where I put it so I wouldn’t forget! It fit perfectly, resting on my wedding band. And this is after repeated hand-washing, playing in the pool and typing! I must need new eyeglasses!

Sounds like a lot of us can identify with this poor bloke! The scariest part of forgetting for me is coming back to the kitchen ten minutes later and discovering a pot of water I’d put on to boil for some reason is about boiled dry. 😦

I sometimes forget where I put my little book of reminders. On the bright side I can imagine for a while that I’m all caught up until I remember one by one the things I should have done. Nice six!

My memory isn’t as good as it used to be which isn’t all bad. There are a few things I am happy to forget.

It would be handy if we had a way of choosing what to keep and which to lose!

Forgetting where you left your book, or your keys, might simply be normal because we all lose things from time to time and some loss of memory does happen for most of us. Forgetting what the book, or the keys, are for is another thing entirely.
