A short story for The Sunday Muse weekly photo prompt which is hosted by Carrie.

“If you stand there much longer you’ll take root”, shouted Ivy, “and anyway, what are you staring at?”

“That light,” said Phil, “up there, look at it”.

“There are just a few stars, you and your imagination!”

“But nothing, it’s freezing out here, I’m going indoors, come in soon for goodness sake”.

Phil didn’t come in. He never came in. He just disappeared never to be seen again.

Ivy carried on living there alone for the rest of her days.

The house was sold to an elderly couple, Rose and Albert. One evening, Albert was standing motionless in the garden beside a tree bedecked with ivy.

“If you stand there much longer you’ll take root” shouted Rose “and anyway, what are you staring at?”
