I’ve just returned from a few days camping, a short riverside walk from the beautiful medieval city of Salisbury. These are just a few of the snaps I took on my phone.

The stunning Cathedral boasts Britain’s tallest spire, the largest Cathedral close and cloisters, the world’s oldest mechanical clock and the wonderfully preserved original 1215 Magna Carta.

It is an amazing building, hard to imagine how that built it centuries ago.

Hi Keith – I’ve never been, nor to Winchester … definitely missed out there. Excellent photos – loved them – great time you seemed to have had. Lovely to see the chalk stream/s … thanks such fun to see … cheers Hilary

I lived in Winchester for many years and still belong to the Friends of the Cathedral. I was in Salisbury mainly for the Southern Cathedrals Festival which is where the choirs of Winchester, Chichester and Salisbury come together and perform several concerts.

Must have been wonderful … so glad you were able to go down. Interesting to know you lived in Winchester for some years before moving up to Sussex … cheers Hilary

Oh those strawberries for a pound!
Such a contrast to my first encounter with Salisbury in literature.
Matilda [Roald Dahl] had a TV dinner – one of the tastier ones was Salisbury steak.

It’s a great way to relax, especially as there was no wi-fi on the campsite – peace, perfect peace!

There was a time when I was close to Salisbury and wanted to visit. We ran out of time and didn’t get to go. The photos are great.

Your photos are always so clear and full of colour. I do like Salisbury a lot. We haven’t been since before the pandemic so I think it is time for another visit in 2 or 3 months time.

You went there at the right time – great views of the church and the leftover arch of the old town/city wall. A fun parade, and I miss the European weekly open markets, at least they have some things to sell (here it’s one row of booths not worth visiting, and no veggies or clothes or antiques whatsoever – maybe I should investigate more in the center of Austin! A great summer post, Keith:)

Thanks, Emille. Apart from hitting a heatwave, it was perfect! This market is very large, I spent ages wandering around it

Great photos, Keith 🙂 I LOVE cathedrals as much as castles…and even ruins of either. I didn’t know about the 5 rivers–way cool!

Me too Staarlz! How they built them centuries ago without today’s technology and equipment s hard to imagine.

Thanks for taking us along with you to Salisbury, Keith. Such a picturesque town. And quaint to boot.
Your camera surely takes some magnificent shots, and yes compliments to the person behind the lens too.
The cathedral, market, the rivers, the dancing; all makes me wish upon a star to be able to visit the gorgeous Salisbury some day.
Either ways my visit to New Castle Upon Tyne, where I lived as a kid is long over due. 🙂
I love how you carry a companion – a flowering pot, each time you go camping – this time a sunflower. :))

Thanks for your delightful comment, Natasha. So, you’re a bit of a Geordie, I had no idea! You’ve noticed my floral travelling companions! They always get commented on by my fellow campers!

Ah! Yes.:-)
And I went to Jesmond school. I was so chuffed to find their page on Facebook. I’m hardly on Facebook though, but I’d love to find my class teacher, Ms. Hall who truly believed in me before I could – some day soon.
There’s a post I’ll be writing about New Castle in the coming week. 🙂
I can’t miss your floral companions. It’s very endearing what you do. 🙂
