One hundred words

.

I went to the library for a novel featuring cats. The only one I found wasn’t of much interest to me.

“Why aren’t there more?” I asked the grim-faced librarian.

She stared at me over her wire-framed spectacles but said nothing. I took a step back.

“I started to ask again. “Why…”

“I heard you the first time” she hissed, her menacing gaze giving me goose-bumps.

“I’m s-s-s-sorry”, I stuttered.

“Because” she whispered, placing her pen on the desk.

“Because?” I nervously asked, immediately wishing I hadn’t.

“Because…” she growled,

I looked for the door.

“…cats, only have one tail”.

I thought she’d turn into a cat after growling 🙂
    Tail vs Tale !
Someone has to write another tale about cats 🙂

I was getting rather worried, there. And then zing!

You nailed the twist, Keith. Funny, she seemed rather cat-like also 🙂

For some reason I thought she was cat lady who would bring the room flooding with cats and kittens. Lol! So much for my imagination running helter-skelter.

You really tailed the cat. :-))

    Dear Keith,

I’m laughing. Glad I set my coffee aside so it didn’t snort out my nose. 😉 One tail…great play on words.

    Shalom,

But they do have nine lives, right? With or without tales. Tails. 🙂

My goodness, a grim-faced librarian! A slimey character with a slippery sense of dark humour. What about the book, The Nine Lives of a Ginger Puss. Too raunchy for her I suspect.

Ah, Keith, the ever clever use of ‘our’ language and its tricky, or even vexatious, homophones. Reading or listening makes all the difference. 🙂

Tee Hee … this made me chuckle. A quick-witted tale … no pun intended.
I loved where you took the photo, Keith. Have a wonderful weekend …
    Have a great week … Isadora 😎

Thanks, Jilly. They used to be a bit like that in their silent surroundings!

Hahahaha good one, Keith. Her nervousness comes through clearly. Well done. She’s right though! 👀
