One hundred words …

for Friday Fictioneers

I  had one more delivery to make. Odd address.

I prodded Sat-nav Suzie and off I went.

“Branch off to the right,” she said, “then enter Leaf Lane”.

I did as I was told. Suddenly I was surrounded by trees.

“Right at the oak, left at the pine, round the ant hill, cross the stream, up the slope … why have you stopped?”

“Because I’m stuck in mud” I shouted!

To cut a long story short (word limit) I abandoned ship, no, truck.

“Don’t leave me this way” sang Sat-nav Suzie as I slithered and sploshed my way back to civilisation.

Wow, what a fun-filled story. I enjoyed the narration. The voice change amuses me quite a lot.

For me, recording is half the fun! I’m delighted to have amused you.

Yes, it’s quite some fun. Thanks for sharing 👍 😊

    Never trust a sat-nav! Good fun 🙂

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 10, 2022 / 13:36

Mine’s taken on some very odd routes! Cheers, Iain.

  4. Dale's avatar Dale February 9, 2022 / 20:25

Haha!! That’s what happens when you forget your common sense and leave it all up to Suzie!

      • Dale's avatar Dale February 10, 2022 / 13:45

        Troof!

That sat nav knows way too much about what the terrain looks like. I’m thinking haunted

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 10, 2022 / 13:48

Suzie’s certainly done her research! Cheers, Neil.

I’m still waiting for an Amazon delivery that was due several hours ago. Perhaps I should look in the woods!

An interactive GPS what a delight. Such fun navigating items also. Funny and your reading makes it twice as good.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 10, 2022 / 13:58

I’m not sure I’d swap mine for it! Thanks so much, Lisa.

Talk about a rocky relationship! But who knows… her satellite was probably over China while she was trying to direct you there in the UK, so what can you expect?

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 10, 2022 / 14:03

You could be right! She’s got her eye on that street food!

    Dear Keith,

I call my GPS Stella. I often imagine her frustration when we don’t follow her directions. As always your story is delightful and made me giggle.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 10, 2022 / 14:10

I’m pleased to have amused you, Rochelle! I actually feel guilty if I decide to ignore one of her instructions, how silly is that!

  9. parikhit's avatar parikhit February 10, 2022 / 11:52

Don’t trust the navigation. The good old, ‘Hey Mister, do you know how do I reach here’ is always the best!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 10, 2022 / 14:21

I still like those big road atlases we used to rely on!

  10. Bear's avatar Bear February 10, 2022 / 14:21

Sounds like how the locals here in Kentucky give directions to tourists. I got that when I first moved here until I got upset and told the person that I had just enough fuel, I thought, to get back to town… I hoped. Then, he gave me short simple directions to the nearest fuel stop. Two weeks ago, I was in a car accident because I was trying to follow voice directions from my phone… GPS that is out of date sucks!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 10, 2022 / 14:30

I’ll Bear that in mind (pardon the pun) if I ever find myself lost in Kentucky! Sorry to hear about your accident, I hope your phone apologised!

      • Bear's avatar Bear February 10, 2022 / 14:37

No, it didn’t. but then, it did auto dial the insurance company…. LOL!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 11, 2022 / 13:35

She has a wicked sense of humour, that’s for sure!

  11. Bill's avatar Bill February 10, 2022 / 21:35

Well, you got it nearly right, Keith. I like to run about three navigation devices simultaneously and listen to them argue. Or when they show me in the middle of nowhere and I’m miles from that. 🙂

  12. Natasha's avatar Natasha February 11, 2022 / 07:33

Did you ever end up doing theater, Keith? You would do great.

Loved the narration. And once again thank you for the laughs.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 11, 2022 / 13:45

I’ve done many things, but not that. I guess it’s never too late! I’m so pleased you enjoyed it, Natasha.

        Aye! Aye! to that.

        Have a great new eeek!

I loved the way the sat nav gets lost. Just wait until they get to drive.

  14. Rowena's avatar Rowena February 11, 2022 / 11:37

So glad I listened to your narration, Keith It was hilarious and you really brought it to life. Great to hear your voice for the first time too.
I refuse to use Sat Nav and still prefer a paper map although have used my phone a few times. I have such poor spatial skills, I can’t afford for them to get any worse.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 11, 2022 / 13:54

Thanks, Rowena. Paper maps do give you a better idea of where you are in relation to your destination. My sat-nav seems to have a mind of its own on occasions!

  15. Inside the Mind of Isadora's avatar Inside the Mind of Isadora February 11, 2022 / 16:01

A wonderfully amusing tale made so much more real by your excellent narration.
    Have a wonderful weekdend.

I always suspected satnavs were up to no good 😮

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 13, 2022 / 14:45

Me too, I’m always careful what I say when she’s active!

i’m relieved it was suzie not rosie leading the way. 🙂

  18. Michael's avatar Michael February 11, 2022 / 20:17

Don’t trust a Sat Nav, that’s my belief. soon I fear we will need them to guide us to the shops

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 13, 2022 / 14:49

Modern technology is making us much lazier! Cheers, Michael.

Love the audio, and the story. Very funny, and not so far from reality.

  20. Laurie Bell's avatar Laurie Bell February 11, 2022 / 23:20

Hahaha hilarious ! I talk back to my GPS too… we have one with an Aussie accent and it keeps telling me to “take the next right, mate”

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 13, 2022 / 14:54

I would love to hear that! I do say please and thank you to mine out of politeness.

Delivery jobs are getting tougher day by day.. fun story Keith

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 13, 2022 / 14:57

I know, I might feel sorry for them one day – but only when they stop delivering my packages to the wrong address!

        Haha

  22. GHLearner's avatar GHLearner February 12, 2022 / 21:54

That explains why I never get along with the Sat-navs. Wake up little Suzie comes too late in this case. I’d go with paper maps any time.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 13, 2022 / 14:59

That’s a song I’ve not heard in a while! I’m with you, I love my trusty old road atlas.

  23. jillyfunnell's avatar jillyfunnell February 13, 2022 / 14:12

Brilliant! I think you need to put Suzie back to factory settings so she doesn’t LEAD you that way again. She seems to be stuck on Flora and Fauna instead of more helpful landmarks.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings February 13, 2022 / 15:03

Thanks, JIlly. If I rebooted her she’d just kick back! She’s clearly a country girl, not a city dweller!

  24. ahtdoucette's avatar ahtdoucette February 14, 2022 / 15:59

Oh no! That fear we all have when listening to GPS “voice” lead us somewhere that really doesn’t seem right, but then you keep going, but one day. One day! LOL. But in a vaguely worried kind of way. 😉

  25. Nobbinmaug's avatar Nobbinmaug February 16, 2022 / 14:39

That’ll teach Sat-Nav Suzie. Don’t get me stuck in the mud, and you won’t be stuck in the mud.
