One hundred words …

for Friday Fictioneers

800x1280xxxxThe moon is bright tonight.  So bright, it casts shadows upon the blanket of pure white snow.  Mine walks beside me, keeping me company.

A cloaked figure strolls in my direction.  I’m unable to make out his face, just a hollow void.  I step aside.  It’s as though he doesn’t see me.

I glance over my shoulder; he has no shadow, leaves no footprints in the virgin snow.

I shut my eyes as a rush of freezing wind stings my face only to cease as suddenly as it started.  When I open them he is nowhere to be seen.

You really need to lay off the post-prandial port, old pip!

Oh, I love this, Keith! I almost went there, myself.
Made me think of my friend who felt a woosh of cold air while she was in the shower (no windows open) and realised it happened at the same time as her husband died, being hit by a car… spooky.

    Dear Keith,

That was chilling in more ways than one. No wonder it’s said that some people are afraid of their own shadows. 😉 Good one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

They do say that. Shadows can sometimes be mysterious and a little creepy. Thanks Rochelle.

Death walking among us? Could be read as a reference to a certain virus doing the rounds just now. Excellent writing Keith.

That hadn’t occurred to me, but it does work! Cheers Iain.

Creepy! It’s a shadow you see but when you look for it it isn’t there!

How did you manage to spot one?!
    Hope I never do 🙂

Fantastic, I really liked this. The tone and the mood were just right for the subject of a dark mysterious shadow. Personally, I find it hard work to live upto and follow in the footsteps of my shadow.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings November 20, 2020 / 10:47

Thanks so much James. My shadow has a mind of it’s own and likes to muck around – it tripped me up the other day. I tried giving it a kick but it jumped out of the way!

I envisaged Death stalking him – apparently he escaped this time.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings November 21, 2020 / 17:04

It’s probably after the next person along the path! Cheers Liz.

A close shave there, many will not know how close the virus called, and perhaps that is for the best

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings November 22, 2020 / 15:20

I don’t wish to know how close I’ve come to it at times! Cheers Michael.

Well written Keith. It reminds me of the ghostly monk who has been spotted reguallry around here, including by my sister, crossing the road at a particular place. (I don’t believe it myself but don’t tell my sister.)

Best not to incase the ghost is real you upset it! Cheers Michael.
