The moon is bright tonight. So bright, it casts shadows upon the blanket of pure white snow. Mine walks beside me, keeping me company.
A cloaked figure strolls in my direction. I’m unable to make out his face, just a hollow void. I step aside. It’s as though he doesn’t see me.
I glance over my shoulder; he has no shadow, leaves no footprints in the virgin snow.
I shut my eyes as a rush of freezing wind stings my face only to cease as suddenly as it started. When I open them he is nowhere to be seen.
Thanks to Rochelle for hosting and to Sarah Potter for the photo.

Eerily interesting!
Woooooooo!
😻
Wow, that was chilling. Good use of the prompt, Keith.
I’m pleased it had the desired effect! Thanks so much, Russell.
You really need to lay off the post-prandial port, old pip!
…or possibly the pre-prandial sherry!
Oh, I love this, Keith! I almost went there, myself.
Made me think of my friend who felt a woosh of cold air while she was in the shower (no windows open) and realised it happened at the same time as her husband died, being hit by a car… spooky.
Now that really is spooky!
Another chiller to add to this week’s spooky stories! Nicely done, Keith.

There are quite a few this week! Thanks Susan.
Dear Keith,
That was chilling in more ways than one. No wonder it’s said that some people are afraid of their own shadows. 😉 Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
They do say that. Shadows can sometimes be mysterious and a little creepy. Thanks Rochelle.
Death walking among us? Could be read as a reference to a certain virus doing the rounds just now. Excellent writing Keith.
That hadn’t occurred to me, but it does work! Cheers Iain.
Ohhhh…. A good ghostie one!
Ohhh… yes! Cheers Bear.
Creepy! It’s a shadow you see but when you look for it it isn’t there!
The stuff of nightmares!
Glad he was able to open his eyes again after passing death. Chilling tale!
So was he! Cheers Jade.
🙂
Not something i’d want to see!
Nor me, thank goodness it’s fictitious!
Excellent use of the prompt!
Thank you Sandra.
Ghosts have no shadows!
How did you manage to spot one?!
Hope I never do 🙂
Exactly – no shadow, no footprints!
Brrrrr! A brush with the Shadow of Death?
Quite possibly Linda!
Fantastic, I really liked this. The tone and the mood were just right for the subject of a dark mysterious shadow. Personally, I find it hard work to live upto and follow in the footsteps of my shadow.
Thanks so much James. My shadow has a mind of it’s own and likes to muck around – it tripped me up the other day. I tried giving it a kick but it jumped out of the way!
Eek. He just needs to thank his lucky stars the figure was not there for him…
Too true! Cheers Ali.
I love a ghost story! Nicely done
Me toooooooo! Cheers!
I envisaged Death stalking him – apparently he escaped this time.
It’s probably after the next person along the path! Cheers Liz.
Very mysterious, Keith. Hmm, the Grim Reaper? Excellent!
Could well be Brenda! Thanks so much.
Ooh, good one. That was eerie, chilling, and mysterious. I liked it a lot.
Delighted to have spooked you!
That was a chilling tale, but superbly interesting too Keith.
Thanks so much!
Excellent Keith – wonderful photo … which you’ve matched so well … as the others say – chilling, eerie … glad it’s midday! Stay safe – Hilary
I let my spooky side out now and again! Cheers Hilary.
Very intriguing, Keith! Nice work 🙂
That’s really kind of you, thanks so much.
A close shave there, many will not know how close the virus called, and perhaps that is for the best
I don’t wish to know how close I’ve come to it at times! Cheers Michael.
What an impeccably crafted story of the supernatural. Well done! Death on the prowl…
That’s really kind of you Penny, thank you.
Well written Keith. It reminds me of the ghostly monk who has been spotted reguallry around here, including by my sister, crossing the road at a particular place. (I don’t believe it myself but don’t tell my sister.)
Best not to incase the ghost is real you upset it! Cheers Michael.
Very atmospheric!
Thanks so much.
A brush with death…
…this time. Cheers Fatima.
A lucky escape? Or a harmless ghost?
I suspect the former Sascha!
Oooooo love the creep factor here! You’ve set a great horror mood
Delighted to have spooked you Laurie!
