The letter N has proved the most problematic of the entire month when seeking obsolete words on which to base a yarn! I just have one!

Naupathia – Seasickness

This was not a good idea. I should not have been talked into it.
Last year she wanted us to go on a cruise. Barbados, Jamaica. No way, I said. I’ll fly there but I’m not going on a boat.
The thing is, I suffer from naupathia. Admittedly it’s only reared it’s ugly green head once and that was on a cross-channel ferry. But it was horrible and more than enough to put me off for life.
Since then, I haven’t even been able to have my rubber duck in the bath with me, because watching it bob up and down makes me feel queazy.
So, like I said, this was not a good idea, but I’ve accepted the challenge and like Captain Cook and Popeye before me, I’m about to brave the ocean.
I’m ready,
I’m calm,
I’m climbing aboard.
and here we go.
.
Wooo, I’m going up.
Weee, I’m going down.
Up, tilt left.
Down, tilt right.
I don’t … like … this … I’m going … to be ……
Splat!
.
Don’t you ever tell me to hire a pedal boat on the beach again.

I’m sure she’s convinced now, too. Another delectable tale. 🙂
He’s certainly hoping so! Thanks Christine
Oops!
Perfectly put Sadje!
No other word fits!
I hope he was able to heave-ho over the edge of the paddle boat. Poor guy!
I certainly hope so! Thanks Jade.
I loved how you got sick watching the rubber duck bob ! I am scared of drowning and even though I am a proficient swimmer , I literally swim with my heart in my mouth
That’s unusual Unishta!
oh my tummy is a rocking from your description….must get off my chair and lie down! Take it easy- I’ll be back tomorrow! Cheers!
Ha ha! Sorry about that Kathe!
Oh Keith. I’m an absolute no no for water and boats. Never been on a cruise ship. Even the pool doesn’t lure me at all!
Haha! You are as bad as him!
Oh so funny! The end is just so hilarious! Poor guy 😉 Congratulations for this beautiful N old word!
N is for Nature
Hi Keith – not sure how he managed to relay the tale! Well done … might be a new game … go well – Hilary
Nor me Hilary! Look after yourself.
I’ve been on 3 cruise ships – 2 were fine but one was terrrible naupathia hit me in a big way. I think I will avoid cruise ships (at least for now)
It’s not a good time to be on cruise ship that’s for sure!
Oops! I’ve got motion sickness and buses make me feel the same way. Ugh!! I’d rather not go anywhere.
Poor guy, hope he is feeling fine after the adventure.
I’m glad I don’t suffer from bus sickness, I use them all the time! I imagine he’s recovered by now Srivalli.
Am I correct in my assumption after reading your post today that his resident rubber duck has to make do with quick showers these days? Rubber Duck gets bonus points for being green.
He, on the other hand, well, what can I say? Green is not really his colour.
He does and it’s driving him quackers! No, green is not not the most flattering of shades.
That made me laugh. Thanks, Keith. I needed that. Man, I miss paddle boating.
I bet you are Olympic standard Stu!
This just reminded me of my 2018 entry to the challenge!
I want to go on cruises too but I don’t know if I have sea sickness or not..

Only one way to find out! Cheers.
If someone says no, it usually means no for a reason!
Very true Mimi!
Sympathise. I get seasick in a canal boat.
Now that is serious! A true sufferer.
I can’t swim to save my life (know enough swimming to waddle around for a few minutes until someone rescues me) but I have no issues with being on a boat. Catamarans, Jet skis, Motor boats, cruise ships, rowboats… you name it, I love them all. Guess this guy is my complete opposite.
Mine too! Like you I’m a useless swimmer but love bobbing around on it!
Yikes! Poor guy. I don’t envy him. I could picture this story very vividly in my mind. Excellent description! And I managed to guess Naupathia. 😀
