Ninety-three words …

for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt where the given word is Abysmal and the word limit 93.

angry-judge-illustration-cartoon-character-shouting-pointing-viewer-55973884‘Order’ yelled the red-faced judge as his wig slipped,  covering one of his bulging eyes.

‘Justice’ chanted the rowdy crowd.

‘Enough of your abysmal behaviour’  the judge hollered slamming his gavel, the head of which broke free and bounced into the clerk’s lap.

‘Justice’.

‘Order’.

‘Justice’.

‘ORDER!’.

The jury’s heads turned this way and that like an audience at a ping-pong match.

The door opened to reveal the ghostly figure of the murder victim.

‘Not him’,  it hissed, pointing a quivering finger, ‘but her’.

Then it shimmered and disappeared.

How odd was that?

        You’re welcome 😉

Wouldn’t it be justified if all victims came back and brought justice?

It would – certainly better than now where the most peruasive lawyer wins the day!

Your judge doesn’t look like one to dispense much MERCY.
And the ghost was definitely out of ORDER, popping in and giving his testimony like that, without being upon to take the stand. He could be held in contempt of court.

He could, but I wish them luck trying to keep him in a prison cell!

Many an investigating officer probably wishes it were always that easy.

Dunnow if it was odd, but I sure would serve to put some order into justice! 😉

      “It sure would…” (I meant … or did I? … ;))

It would certainly be more reliable than the jury system! Cheers Na’ama.

Unless, of course, ghosts of those who lied in life will continue to ‘settle scores’ after death … 😉

        Yeah … I guess … eh? I wish I didn’t … 😉

That was indeed different. And I’m chuckling at the comments too. Ghost out of ORDER! Ha ha!

    Dear Keith,

Leave it to you to turn the prompt on its ear. Therein lies the charm of your writings. It certainly is poetic justice that the deceased came to set the record straight. The image of the red-faced judge with this slipping wig is priceless.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

Rochelle, that is so kind of you and I’m so pleased you liked it.

Hi Keith – wonder if they retried … fun story in a few words. Cheers Hilary

They were probably too scared to! Thanks Hilary.

The jury system sucks, so I’ll go with the apparition. I’ll never forget an interview with a former juror about a man who was found innocent through DNA and the confession of the real killer. The juror said he didn’t care. The man was found guilty by the jury and that was all that mattered.

One day lie detectors will be foolproof – problem solved.
