The flight was perfect. Decent food, a drink or three and a movie. Straight through immigration. Everyone is smiling. I’m happy, relaxed and looking forward to my hotel room, a bubbly bath then tucking into something spicy. Aaah, bliss!
There’s the bus. What a charming driver! This seat’s so comfy. Off we go.
Ooops, he slammed on the brakes. Woo, we’re hurling forward. We’re going ridiculously fast, swerving this way and that. Mind that tuk-tuk, wooo, watch that car. We’re turning left, right, right (utter a prayer) left, stop, start, stop…and…we’re…there.
I’m exhausted. I’m queazy. Where’s the toilet? Where’s my bed?
Thanks to Rochelle for hosting and to Fatimer Fakier Deria for the photo.
Stop Froggie to join in the fun!

Wow! A crazy ride.
Based on an actual, event Sadje!
If it’s in an Asian country, I can readily believe it.
I had my first visit to Delhi in mind. I’m used to it now!
I’ve heard the traffic is very bad there.
Take it from an Indian, it is very bad indeed! Not at all a good idea to take your private car.
If I ever visit I will be careful. Thanks 😊
You’re most welcome!
😇
Dear Keith,
That left me breathless. Wild ride.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I hope you soon get your breath back Rochelle! That’s what comes of letting Froggie drive a bus!
What a difference one short ride can make — coupled with a drink or three. Traveller’s Tip: Gravol and water only on flights to that city.
Good advice Christine! I have had a few hair-raising rides in India!
All about perception, in some non-Western countries they drive like maniacs and are very good at it. Just hold your breath…
Enjoyed the realism.
Personally I love it! I’m sure visitors to London find it all painfully slow!
Ha ha – that was completely believable and reminded of my first ride in a tuk-tuk in Delhi. I honestly thought I was going to die. 🙂

Me too, but after a while you get used to them and they are the best and cheapest way of getting around cities! They had them over here in Brighton for a while but the taxi drivers objected and they got stopped by the council.
Not quite the relaxing holiday he was looking forward to! Hopefully if he makes it to the hotel things might be a little calmer!
…or he’ll just get used to it, I did and now it’s part of the fun!
Thanks for sharing your experience on a real-life adrenalin-pumping ride. Reminds me of how one of my old co-workers drives!
I bet you don’t accepts rides from her/him too often!
Poor froggy needs an Anti-Vert! 🙂
That he does! Cheers Na’ama.
🙂 I hope his vestibular arches return to normal function soon …
Should I make it out there one day, I shall make sure I save the drinking for AFTER my tuk tuk ride!
This was fun and didn’t deter me at all…
Great, go for it! It’s exhausting and exhilarating at the same time.
I here ya!!
You did a great job of describing that crazy ride 🙂
Written from experience Linda! Thanks so much.
Yeah, me neither. I think it’s kind of Twilight Zoney 🙂
Aww! Sounds like 3 more drinks might be necessary to relieve the stress of that ride! 🙂
At least 3 Sascha!
A nice, stiff drink will banish the queasiness! Sounds exciting, Keith!
The perfect panacea! Cheers Penny
The pace was exhilarating!
I was exhausted just writing it! Thanks Sandra.
This very greatly reminds me of the bus trip from the aeroporte on Grenada (Island) to the Harbor at St. Georges. A mini-bus crammed to the rafters, high speeds, narrow roads on slants that make the term “Volcanic Protuberence” more than understood. Great story, Keith, and thanks for that memory… I think I’ll skip breakfast, now… even the memory leaves me queasy. LOL!
I’ve had a few trips like that! Sorry about breakfast – enjoy lunch!
I’ve had a foreign taxi-ride or two like that – all one can do is shut one’s eyes and pray!
I do find riding in tuk tuks quite exciting – as long you hang on tightly! Thanks Liz.
And it was going so well… 🙂
Slow slow quick quick…slow!
So much for being relaxed and happy. Now, he needs a good lie down and some Maalox. Maybe a bubbly bath and something spicy tomorrow. Entertaining story as always!
That too Brenda! Thanks so much for your lovely comment.
That’s one of the places where i think i’d rather walk than ride!
Very wise Mimi!
like they say, if you can drive in new delhi, you can drive anywhere. 🙂
That’s about right – even walking across a road is a life-threatening experience!
Friday night in Glasgow?
I’m exhausted just reading this…
Done that too! What a night that was!
I think many of us have had experiences like that! Really enjoyed that one 🙂
That’s the way it is is many parts of Asia! Thanks Angie.
Someone needs driving lessons? Having looked up tuk~tuk I noticed that you’re the first one to take advantage of the fact that the picture was taken somewhere in Thailand
That kind of driving is quite normal there Larry! Thanks so much.
Well, those plans changed quick!
They certainly did! Thanks Russell.
I had a bus ride or two like that in the Canary Islands next to a very steep cliff edge. Definitely needed a drink afterwards. Lovely piece.
A fellow member of the crazy bus ride club! Thanks so much for dropping by
I remember a few rides like that myself! 🙂
Me too and we both lived to tell the tale!
Traffic and driving styles are so different in the East! Your vehicle is just a hair’s breadth from the next. Amusing tale.
In London we most of our journey standing still! Thanks so much for the picture Fatima
I’ve never been on a ride like this but I can relate to the feelings of looking forward to a relaxing evening in a comfy hotel only to have it way laid by something stupid….like traffic!
Well written, very relatable.
Oh, I have!!! Thanks so much for your kind words Dawn.
No napping on this bus!
No way!
Oh yes drivers scare me too. You’ve described a crazy ride
…and me! Thanks Laurie.
Very well described ride. You took us with you, thank you. 🙂
Thanks so much.
You are welcome. 🙂
