A few words…

for Friday Fictioneers

They agreed to meet at the signpost in the park. After months of slowly drifting apart, they’d reached a crossroads.  Which way to go?

Walking slowly, heads bowed, the only sound was the swishing of grass beneath their feet.

He picked her a flower, she pushed it away. He tickling her nose with it and saw a hint of a smile.

He held her arm as they descended some steps then they strolled hand in hand towards the lake.  Still, not a word passed between them.

They sat in silence watching two swans, then slowly turned to face each other.

The signpost became a distant memory.

Not sure she liked her nose being tickled?
I liked the quietness of this story.

It wouldn’t have been as quiet if she’d sneezed! Cheers Tannille.

Quite a departure for you, Keith, and beautifully done, in a restrained, understated way.

I admit my finger hovered over the publish button for a while wondering if I was doing the right thing! Thanks so much for your encouraging words Sandra.

I sometimes feel that way myself when I write out of character. Indulge yourself – it was certainly worth it.

I like this a lot – I really recognise that crossroads moment and the fear that your heart is about to get broken. I’m glad this couple turn it around.

Hooray as well for this being a departure from your usual style, and you’ve done a really good job. I tried writing romance recently and it turned somehow into a dark political fantasy with love in sight. 🙈

Neil, you’ve been quite the romantic lately. Loved the quietness and the happy ending.

Don’t know why I said “Neil.” He must have been the last one I read before yours. Keith. I knew it was you 🙂

I did this post on soul mates when I first started my blog:
        https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2013/12/16/soul-mates/
My Mum loved swans and after my Dad died, we adopted one for her birthday. Sadly he disappeared without trace, but we had several on the marina so I was able to update Mum with news from a very personal angle.

  15. msjadeli's avatar msjadeli October 3, 2019 / 15:52

So romantic, Keith. I love the delicacy of the story, with the lovely swans at the end, one wonder replaced with another. And you know I love your froggies, this time a gentleman and a lady.
