Friday Fictioneers

Personal issues prevented me from writing and posting tales over the past few weeks, but I’m back! Here goes…..

shany.regular

60946129_cf51e5035f_bReflecting on the past. Thinking of what might have been, what could have been, what should have been.

Time had blurred the pictures in her mind. Images once vivid were vague, memories once deep,  shallow.

Then a glance in a mirror showed another view, the reverse of what she’d seen in her mind. Happy memories, long forgotten, came back into view. Positive deeds, once buried, reappeared.

If only she had looked before.

    Dear Keith,

That’s the kind of mirror to have. Nicely done.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

PS the photo is actually by Dawn’s grandson, Nathan Sowers.

Sometimes we tend to look back in mostly positive or negative perspectives, and at least she was reminded once more of the happy life she had.

How fortunate that catching sight of herself in a mirror should remind her of the positive events in her life.

I’ve reached an age when I avoid looking in mirrors too often! Cheers Penny

We understand the situation more objectively when we look back after a few years. Well written.

Really loved this story, dear one. If only, when we looked at the past, we could see only the good…. that would be wonderful!

Hi Keith – glad all is ok and good to see you back. Just heard some nostalgic thoughts by listeners about their parents – and the whys and wherefores … so much we don’t understand – yet the memories are there … cheers Hilary

The story drew me in as I found myself wondering what had happened to her, nicely done

I was comparing both images, trying to fit them both to your words. The Shack Mirror does fit as well. Glad all is ok now.

Sometimes It pays to pay a bit more attention. If she would have kept letting her guard down, misunderstandings could have set in

Quite a thought-provoking piece – we do tend to dwell on the negatives from our past.

If her brain is like mine then looking before might not have done any good. I call it hide and seek memory. Stuff I try to remember flickers around the edges while stuff I didn’t intend to think about springs up full blown.

    Welcome back!

Keith, a great effort. I wish I could find a mirror that took me back in time instead of forwards. On a personal note, I sometimes look in the mirror and see my great grandmother a woman I barely met, looking back at me. I look quite a lot like her.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

I like that – the next time I look in the mirror I’ll tell myself it’s my grandad! Thanks so much, Rowena.

You’re welcome, Keith. You need a few tricks up your sleeve when it comes to getting older. Denial is serving me very well.

I really, really liked this, Keith. Simple but very profound. Sometimes we tend to dwell only on the negative and the bad/sad times. Great take on the prompt.

I like how you play on the little-considered aspect of the mirror–it’s reversal of the image presented to it. How nice to interpret that as a reversal of fortunes, or at the very least, of mood, from sad to happy.
