Post 1639. Wednesday March 28

All this food, I hope they’re hungry! I say, those sandwiches look delicious. Five different fillings. My homemade scones are still warm. Yummy! Here’s my strawberry jam and there’s the clotted cream. How about these cakes? The best I’ve ever made. Now, I need six cups and saucers and six plates. Shall we use the bone china? Why not, this is a very special picnic. Tablecloth check. Serviettes check. Cutlery…where’s the cutlery? Ah, here it is.
The phone’s ringing. Hello…yes…really…err…ok…bye. Oh, they’ve decided to go McDonald’s instead. What a shame. Hey, do you fancy a picnic? I’ve got sandwiches, scones……….

Written for Friday Fictioneers which is once again hosted by Rochelle. The picture is by Fatima Fakier Deria.

Now THAT is philosophical
I thought I would write something deep and meaningful this week – then I changed my mind! Cheers, Neil.
I wanna join in!
The picnic looks fabulous & I love all the items you have decided 🙂 🙂
You are more than welcome to join us, Anita!
Dear Keith,
McDonald’s? The barbarians! I’ll take fresh baked scones and clotted cream over a Big Mac any day. Good one. You made me hungry.
Shalom,
Rochelle
There’s plenty left Rochelle, help yourself!
The lost art of taking your time and enjoying a long, lazy picnic. But who has the time these days?! Nicely done Keith.
I do! Always time for a picnic! Cheers Iain
They seem to be the opposite of “fair weather friends.” In any case, you can stroke them off your Christmas card list.
Ps: Filings should be fillings, I hope. 😉
I’ll take your advice, Christine! Thanks for pointing out my error. Filing sandwiches don’t sound particularly tasty!
This is so true. At Christmas my young nephew didn’t like any of the food and raved about McDonald’s. I told him that wasn’t very healthy. I am sure he will probably not eat on Sunday either. Tough tootsies I say. I might even make some scones for my breakfast.
Scones for breakfast! I like that. Best of luck Sunday Denise!
Who would prefer MacDonald’s over these lovely delicacies?!
Lovely story, Keith!
Not me, that’s for sure! Thanks Moon.
I can help you out with some of that food.
Address?
Randy
You are more than welcome Randy! Cheers.
I’m sorry, but McDonald’s belongs in the pits of hell.
Say it like it is Jane! I’m not the greatest fan myself.
Few people admit to it. And yet, half the world stuffs their faces there…
Sounds delicious! I love sandwiches. More for the rest of us with them off at McDonald’s.
Very true. Tuck in Emily!
My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter has plastic dinnerware in the backyard and I’m periodically invited to tea parties. Then we get plastic baseball bats and go “hunting” birds (relax, she never gets near any of them…it’s all pretend).
Sounds idyllic James. I bet you look great in your hat!
Wasting freshly made scones! A criminal act.
I know, especially as I baked them especially! Thanks Sarah.
She was a lot more civilised about that than I would have been. A saint, in fact…
Fortunately I ran out of words so I had to limit what was really said! Thanks Sandra
I’ll be right there. By the time I finished your story I was hungry enough to crawl through the screen!
Looking forward to meeting you! There’s plenty to go around.
I would not have thought “what a shame”… it would have been more along the lines of “bloody heathens!” ‘Twould appear your table shall be filled with participating Friday Fictioneers!!
I couldn’t possibly write what I really thought! Come, join us do Dale
Oh Keith, this is so sad. All that preparation, and the blighters have gone to McDs.
I know. No taste! Oh well…
You’re right, McDs have no taste!
McDonald’s instead of all that wonderful food for tea? Snort. They have no taste whatsoever.
I would have been there for your scones and clotted cream and.. . . . .yeah. Sounds wonderful.
Join us do! There’s plenty to go around!
I do fancy a picnic and I’m on my way . . . ! A fabulous story – I loved it!
I thought I would be on my own, now we are quite a crowd! Good of you to join us Edith. Earl Grey or Jasmine tea?
Great piece. Love the way you put together the putting together of the picnic.
And I love the way you’ve put together your comment! Thanks so much
Anyone who would choose Mickey D’s over your picnic needs a head examination by a good psychiatrist!
You say the nicest things! Cheers mimi
I would choose the picnic any day! A traditional picnic like this seems like the thing of the past. Thanks for sharing this. It’s about time I go on a picnic with the family.
Call me old-fashioned, but I still like to dig out the picnic hamper on a nice summers day!
he must have invited the wrong folks. 🙂
It certainly seems that way Plaridel!
WEll, it sounds delicious. Much nicer than a trip to McDonalds! Nicely doen Keith
Absolutely Lynn. Cheers.
My pleasure
That is rude – they could have at least pretended they were sick. All the food sounds fantastic , don’t mind if I do take you up on your invite.
They certainly are Irene, very rude. The way things are going I’m going to have to bake a load more scones!
LOL
This is the most delicious post this week.
Thanks for you tasty comment! Not a ghost in sight.
What a friendly host~I was plum stupefied at how well your agreeable protagonist somehow managed to take it all.
He’s a positive thinker that’s sure! Cheers, Larry.
What a shame! And how very rude of the invited guests! The food sounds delicious for a summer afternoon.
There’s nothing like it! Roll on summer.
Foolish guests! Yes, I’ll take you up on the offer. I’m on my way.
You are more than welcome Alice!
It sounds like all the Fictioneers are coming. Better make more scones. They sound delicious!
More scones, more chairs, more tables! Cheers Russell
McDonalds over that? Silly people. At least the narrator has a positive attitude.
Indeed he has! Thank you.
I feel the protagonist being a very very lonely person… I’m choking up in sympathy and will come and join his picnic…
Don’t worry, things seem to be going pretty well now. See you later!
Go out into the highways ans byways and compel them to come in. Words that spring to mind after your all-too-familiar story.
Perfectly said Liz. Let’s go get ’em!
Keith, I really liked the host’s positive attitude. I hope I get invited to the picnic. Clotted cream would be something new for me.
Clotted cream is wonderful – it’s associated with the county of Cornwall in the west of the UK. Come along and try some!
I googled clotted cream. Walmart sells it. Who knew???? I will try some.
Awwwweeeee, now I want to eat scones with tea.
Join us do!
Pssh, I wouldn’t pick McDonald’s over that!
I should think not Patricia! Cheers
Well, it’s their loss. I’ll join you, sounds lovely! As long as you remember it’s jam first, then the cream on the scones, in the proper Cornish fashion 🙂
A man after my own heart! It’s the only way to eat them. I’ll save you some.
Recently a Cornish NT property issued a publicity shot with the jam and cream upside down, in the “Devon fashion”. There was a massive outcry with some members threatening to cancel. We take it very seriously down here!
March 31, 2018 at 12:31 Edit
Good old NT! On the front page of their recent magazine, they showed a picture of the cliffs where I live on the East Sussex coast, and the caption underneath said it was taken in Kent! I haven’t cancelled though
The story teller sounds like an affable and amenable sort of bloke – which is lucky ! Nice one.
He is indeed, but then I would say that wouldn’t I? Cheers WWM
I would love your picnic, homemade scones yes please. I have never been impressed by Mac D’s
I’m beginning to wish I was charging! It’s getting quite crowded over here! Beter be quick James
Sounds like the perfect picnic fare. Your guests are missing out!
All the more for the Fictioneers! Join us do Kat.
I’m in, can I come? Warm scones, clotted cream… these idiots don’t know what they miss. Sad story, really, egoistic bunch, these friends.
You are more than welcome! As for the friends, I couldn’t have put it better myself. See you later!
Now I can’t wait for a fine sunny day. Ps when are we all getting together for a mega picnic. With home made jam of course
Mega picnic very soon! As for the jam, mine is legendary. Cheers Michael.
Hmmm….can’t imagine taking McDonald’s over a lovely garden picnic. Well done, Keith!
Nor me but there’s no accounting for taste! Thanks, Sascha
You drew me in and now I’m hungry. I’d love to come to your picnic, it sounds so much better than McDonald’s! =)
Plenty to go around! Thanks so much, Brenda.
Wonderful story!
Thaks so much
well done – and yes, I am coming – no McDont;s for moi
You are more than welcome!
😊🙏
A picnic every day over any old Macdee 😀
So they tell me! Cheers Dahlia.
I’d join you for a picnic over MacD’s anyway. And what’s more, we would have a blast too! Save some scones for me. Delightful story as always, Keith 🙂
You are going to have to give me more chairs Fatima! Cheers
Oh, that has such a sad ending. I would be very fat but the end of that picnic. It must be my age, but I can’t imagine McDonald’s as an enticing alternative to those jam and scones – delicious.
Fat but happy! Join us do Sarah!
Definitely happy.
This meal would be SO much better than McDonald’s! They don’t know what they are missing.
Sounds like a delicious picnic in the summer breeze. As I think about a Big Mac, the noise of McDonald’s, I think those who changed their plans were the losers.
