Wordle 775

When an enormous superstore opened near the town, it sounded the death knell for several of the little shops that had served the local community for generations. Most saw a drop in profits, two closed down within weeks. Even their Mayor had been complicit in agreeing to its opening, an evil and cold hearted thing for a person in his position to do.

Hungry not to be one of the casualties Andre Prennure came up with a plan. By his reckoning things would improve as soon as his first phase began to stream.

Some however saw it as pure folly, and sadly they were right for his became the third shop to shut its doors. You can hardly blame him for trying though, can you?

He works at the superstore now.

Keith, you have captured well a sign of our times. It is sad how true to life your story here is. Well done on the words prompt… another difficult set this week.

Thanks, Suzette. That’s the way it is for many towns.

A sad realistic tale. We’ve all witnessed our favourite little shop being gobbled up by the big box store.
    Well done, sir!

That’s quite the hot potato topic, Keith, poor old Andre, and that’s even without Amazon.

This is sad and quite a common occurrence these days. I’m fortunate to live in a small town that still supports our local merchants. The large supermarkets are in the next town …. close enough to get to quickly but far enough away to allow my town to maintain its unique charm.

The same here too, Nancy. We are blessed to still have independant butchers, fishmongers, bakers, greengrocers etc in our small town. Long may they last!

“‘Tis true, ’tis pity, and pity ’tis, ’tis true.” Some shops manage to hang on by being clever and doing something unique, but far too many don’t survive.

I want to live where Nancy lives!

’tis indeed, Mimi. Like Nancy, my small town is hanging on in there too!

Consumers want it as cheap as it comes. Super-centers buy in bulk and get it cheaper than little stores can, so they don’t survive. Sad fact of life in our age.

    Sadly, this happens often enough.
