It’s Monday again!

I’m listening to squeaky music and the occasional robotic voice. Thank you for holding on…we are very busy right now…you are number sixteen in the queue…thenhello, sorry to keep you waiting, my names Charles, how can I help you?”

I’ve been waiting so long that for a moment or two, I’ve forgotten why I called!

The guy in the call centre sounds as bored as you-know-what. I can’t say I blame him, I wouldn’t want to spend my day listening to cantankerous customers and crochety clients.

We chat for a while, he keeps coming and going then comes up with a solution to my problem – at least, he claims to, only time will tell.

Fast forward a few hours

I’m at a gig, the band comes on stage, Chas and Chums they call themselves! They belt out one song after another, their singer leaping around the stage like a wallaby on weed!

‘Hold on, I’m coming’, he sings, then ’waiting in vain’, then ‘soon baby soon’, then ‘it’s been a long long time’.

The band takes a break. Chas sits on the edge of the stage and listens to the song playing on the juke box. ‘So tired, tired of waiting, tired of waiting for you-oo-oo’.  For a couple of minutes it’s like he’s back at his day job.

If this isn’t real life it sure could be. Glad you got your voice back! It was missed.

So very well done Keith as you’ve tied both images together in your story. Loved the twist at the end- a call center employee in the day, a band member at night. Thanks for joining in.

LOL. Nice one. I had a rep from Amazon on the phone recently – they sent the wrong stuff – and before we ended the call he thanked me for being so nice and not yelling at him. Wouldn’t want his job, ever!

Those are the days I pray for extra grace…being on hold, waiting…and usually the Lord grants my request so that I can be a blessing to the person who finally takes my call…whether or not the results will be favorable. I figure it costs nothing to be nice…well some days it costs…but you know about that I’m sure!🙄

I try to remember the person taking the call did not cause the problem and has no control over corporate policy. May they all have some kind of good outlet for when the stress of the job gets to them.
