For Wordless Wednesday on a Tuesday, and bloghops various!

.

.

I recently returned from a trip along the coast of Norway. I travelled on MS Kong Harald, a cross between a cruise ship and a working boat as it transported mail, cargo and cars as well as being a hop-on hop-off means of transport for locals!

I took over 900 photos which I’ll be going through for the foreseeable future!

.

.

These are just a few of the snaps I took from a small ship as we sailed along Norway’s most beautiful and best-known fjords,  Romsdalsfjord, Geirangerfjord and Hjørundfjord.

My daughter was in Norway for a conference about education. She loved the country and was advising us to move there

There was something very special about the place and it’s people. I can quite understand why she said that.

It was great. I’m not one for posh cruising, and this was a nice casual way to travel!

I am not opposed to posh cruising but I think I would also like this version!

Oh, these are gorgeous, dear Keith! The bright little pops of color against the white and grey are sensational! The Kong Harald is a lovely ship; I would love to take a trip like this …. if only I didn’t get horribly seasick!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings December 10, 2024 / 15:29

Those colourful wooden houses and their little boat sheds looked beautiful, but It’s hard to believe people live in such remote places. It wasn’t too bumpy as we sailed close to the coast, but everywhere you looked on the ship there were piles of sick bags – just in case!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings December 10, 2024 / 15:30

It was, and it got better and better every day!

It’s so breath-taking. We went thru some of those – on a small electric boat and on the Hurtigruten. Just amazing. Lovely pics.

I can only imagine how incredible it must have been to see these views in person!

Mom has gone through the fjords three times, twice by boat and once by bus but always in the warmer summer months. They are always so beautiful to see. She never thought of going there in the winter, especially by boat.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings December 13, 2024 / 13:01

I’m tempted to return in the Summer, apparently it’s fantastic.

Keith, there can be no bad photos with landscape like this. I wondered how much snow there would be as I headed to your post. I really want to know how you found out about this kind of travel? It must be less expensive to do it that way, maybe even something I could afford. If you have a link to the info, I’d appreciate it. That waterfall up on the mountain WOW!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings December 13, 2024 / 12:27

This was the south of Norway, Lisa. The further north we went, the more snow we found – knee deep in places as you’ll see with pictures to come.

I travelled with Hurtigruten which is an important part of Norway’s economy. There were 27 different nationalities on board, the majority from the USA and Australia. Here’s a link to a similar trip, although mine was slightly longer-

  16. Memories of Eric and Flynn's avatar Memories of Eric and Flynn December 12, 2024 / 10:27

Norway is one of my favourite places to visit althogh I admit we did it on a much bibber ship. Was this Hurtigruten? I would love to go on one of their ships, but as I have to use a wheelchair for anything more than a short distance I don’t know if it will be practical. Now I have been given a reprieve I need to look into it.

Can I make a request? Could you put a place name under the photos? So many places I recognise, but a lot that I don’t. Just the name would do so I know if it somewhere I have been.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings December 13, 2024 / 12:44

It was indeed a Hurtigruten working ship – there were plenty of elevators on board, although some of the excursions could prove problematical with a wheelchair.

I will be attempting to name all the places in my upcoming collections, but as we visited 2 or 3 places some days I may get a few of them confused!

  17. Christine Goodnough's avatar Christine Goodnough December 12, 2024 / 15:25

Interesting scenery! But it doesn’t appear to be a very habitable place, unless you want to fish + hike every day.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings December 13, 2024 / 12:37

They are very isolated, but they’d probably find large towns and cities overwhelming.

WOW!! So amazing, the vistas from the water are staggeringly breathtaking what a grand entrance to that part of the world. You are truly blessed Keith. Thanks for the great photos. I was happy to see a sign for “Sauna” in all that cold. Phew…a bit of comfort.
