for Rochelle’s Friday Fictioneers photo prompt.

,

The tidewater ebbed leaving dregs of sable driftwood in its wake. As the sun dropped below the horizon, darkness shrouded the shore.

*

A macabre character and three infants strolled along the street, each  draped in a black flowing robe, their faces, void.

Now and again they stopped beside a door. As he plucked the strings of  a guitar, it emitted an ear-piercing jangle. The little ones sang, their screeching voices echoing into the distance.

Startled folk anxiously peeped from behind their curtains.

*

Come dawn, the flowing tide gathered the driftwood from the sand and swept it back out to sea.

Keith, best chiller I’ve read this Halloween season. Dang, gave me goosebumps when the children started singing.

A story that captures the essence of Halloween as ghost from the past torment us with songs and strained music. Great story.

The perfect Halloween story, plays like a movie in my head (and would be a better movie than most of the genre). I’m glad you also saw that thing holding a guitar.

I also saw a mother and children, but your story is much more spooky and very seasonal!
