I suddenly sneezed that day. I was walking from the front door to my car before driving to work. Had I not sneezed, I wouldn’t have stood still for thirty seconds to blow my nose.
If I’d not lost those thirty seconds, that blue car wouldn’t have beaten me to my favourite parking space opposite my firm’s office.
Had I not parked over the other side I wouldn’t have stupidly scraped the door of that grey car whilst pulling into the space. I left an apologetic note containing my phone number under its windscreen wiper.
Had I not left that note I’d never have met the owner of that car. Coincidentally, he worked for a company on the floor above mine in the office block. We met in the foyer to exchange insurance details.
Considering the circumstances, we got on surprisingly well! I offered to buy him a drink after work by way of an apology and he accepted.
If he’d not, I would never have met an acquaintance of his, a charming young lady who was there with some friends, one of whom was particularly alluring!
Apparently, they went there every Friday, so I thought I’d drop by the following week and try chatting her up!
Had I not, we wouldn’t have started dating and six months later, marrying!
That was five years ago. Unfortunately things didn’t go well and we are getting a divorce, an expensive one in my case.
If only I hadn’t sneezed that day.

What a domino effect of happenings
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
One thing leading to another! Thanks, Sadje!
Yes, as it often happens in life too.
Wow what a set of circumstances set in motion by one act. Isn’t that how life goes? Well done, Keith.
It’s not just our lives that are affected by our actions, but others we meet along the way too. Cheers, Suzette.
Well said Keith. I agree. Thank you!
Ha. A great response to the prompt. Very clever! You had me… I was getting ready to repeat my timeworn statement that the worst things in our lives can lead to the best ones. Now I have to alter it..the worst things can lead to the best things that lead to the worst ones! Did anything good happen as a result of the divorce? This could become a really long adage.
I like your statement in both its forms! I’d like to think something positive transpired. Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts.
Love this. Shame it didn’t work out.
Thanks, Di. It may turn out to be a good thing after all – who knows? I doubt it though!
🙂
❤️
Thank you, Beth!
Isn’t it amazing how much difference one little sneeze makes.
If he hadn’t, it would be a completely different chain of events.
If only! How I look forward to your clever and entertaining stories each week, dear Keith. Bravo!
Awww, thank you Nancy, writing thses Baaamy stories provides me with the most enjoyable moments of my week!
An expensive sneeze I must say. 😀
It sure was! Cheers, Kritika.
Cheers!
don’t tell anyone…. but I liked the path of your story so much that I was thinking about my Comment rather than read the final sentence. Then I read the comments. But! Too late. I was caught in what I would have typed, ‘The Roar of the Butterfly’
so the question: does a lack of concentration imply an unnecessarily optimistic view of the world or, is it an example of some of us, through Emotional Natural Selection* finding ways to see the world as we prefer?
… Fun Six!**
*not a ‘real’ theory of evolution
** lol
I’m delighted you became so immersed in my tail! You ask an interesting questiion, one I’m unable to answer!
ok… not a word.
I knew I was at ‘the ‘corn and not at the Six Sentence Story! Really. (I should be concerned, but this is a virtual world so who’s to say what is real and/or consistent.)
…of course you did!
As someone – Shakespeare or Mark Twain or somebody – Life’s a bowl of toenail clippings.
I suggest less pepper on your porridge, old mucker!
Please insert ‘once said’ in appropriate place!
…duly done, as instructed!
What inspirational quote! As for the pepper, I’ll heed you sage-like advice!
This is a story that keeps on giving. If you hadn’t been walking out of divorce court that morning, you’d never have met…or got hit by that skateboarder and…
How did you know about that? !!!
So, obviously the story will domino on as you come out of the divorce court….
Fun story, but with a wee serious core – love it, Keith.
Joking apart, I often wonder ‘what if’. Everything we do has an impact on those we encounter, and they on us.
And often an impact we know nothing about – maybe sometimes that’s just as well! 😉
Oh, oh, oh…. etc… Excellent, Keith!
Haha, thanks, Chris!
