They say ‘third time lucky’. I’m determined to make this apple pie. The first time I left out the apples and the second time I burned it.
I’ll not be defeated again. I will succeed, I will!
.
The ingredients are weighed and arranged.
The tin is greased and lined.
The oven is at the correct temperature.
I’m armed with my rolling pin.
Let battle commence!
.
Thirty minutes later…
.
I don my oven gloves.
I open the oven door.
I carefully remove it.
I steadily lift it towards the wortktop …
…dammit, I’ve dropped it!
.
At least my dog’s enjoying it.

Hahaha this is funny. Great read.
Thanks, Kritika, I’m really pleased you liked it!
Pleasure 🙂
Oh my, so funny. And sad. (
I know, I had to fight back the tears!
Oh no. What a tragedy 😂
Indeed it was.
🥹
One more attempt and he’s got it!
Indeed, number 4 here I come!
I thought maybe the oven wouldn’t have been turned on. 😉
That’s an easy mistake to make!
That’s a lot of work so your dog could have apple pie. I laughed out loud.
Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Keith. 🙂
He’s one happy dog! Cheers, Sandee!
Takes some skill to make an apple pie–and reading the instructions, of course. Seems thirty minutes wouldn’t be long enough to bake one, either, so maybe it’s a good thing the dog’s got it. He won’t mind crunchy apple and under-baked crust. Better luck next time. 🙂
Thank you for words of wisdom! I will NOT be defeated
Practice makes perfect. And a mess, but that’s how we all learned to feed ourselves. 🙂
So true – whoops, now look what I’ve done!
Sometimes it’s tough in the kitchen, expectations fall flat.
Flat on the floor in this case! Cheers, James.
Keith I marvel at your talent to make stories into relatable scenes of wonder. Thank you for this lovely baking episode…glad the dog had a nice treat in the end!
What a lovely thing to say, thank you, Suzette.
You are more than welcome Keith. Cheers.
I made a chocolate cake one time that you could have used for a door stop. To this day I have no idea what I did wrong. Even the dog wouldn’t have wanted to eat it. Or couldn’t.
Better luck next timetime.
Haha, how funny!
As they might say in American style football, “Flagged at the goal line!”
About right!
Oh dear, this is why I hate baking!
…and I LOVE baking! Partly fact, partly fiction – I have actually dropped and ruined one of my precious creations before now!
Oh dear… some things are just not meant to be! Fourth time lucky?
Nothing’s gonna stop me now, I’ll bake till I ache, no matter how long it takes to make a cake or maybe even try a pie, one to die for – what am I going on about?
Now you’re talking! And in rhyme, no less.
I hope it’s not too hot for the dog. Yes, the cooking ain’t over until it’s over.
So true and it’s not over yet!
Oh, what a laugh you gifted me with today! LOL! Sounds like my kinda luck, too. Let’s just say, my cat is well fed. LOL!
Thanks so much – join the club!
Oh no! I loved this read, Keith! So relatable and you had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. This is basically the reason my stands six inches away from my feet whenever I’m in the kitchen…
Haha, very wise, Angela! Thanks for your lovely comment.
I appreciate his persistence. May the 4th be with him 😉 Lotta work goes into making a delicious apple pie.
He forgot to put apples in an apple pie!! He could only get better from that starting point. Poor man. I could hear the clatter of the pie dish as it hit the floor – and his words as it happened. Lucky dog. Fun story, Keith.
What a fun story and reminds me of my time in the kitchen. Score one for the dog! 😀
You know there’s that 5 second rule when food falls on the floor. If you had hurried you could have enjoyed a second or two with your dog? (Unless your floor’s like mine in which case the 5 second rule doesn’t abide)
Five-second rule??? Nevertheless, at least you made it. Can try baking one again.
Dear Keith,
And here I thought he was on a roll. Guess he’ll have to pin it down next time. What a disappointment.
Shalom,
Rochelle
What a treat!
Ahhh it must’ve been a very tasty one. Maybe 4th time luckier? Like a four leaf clover hehe
