A teeny tale!

for Rochelle’s Friday Fictioneers photo prompt!

.

.

She coudn’t wait to get home after another boring day at work. Boring job, boring collegues. Working with children would be much more fun. Teaching, running a playgroup. Sadly though, she wasn’t qualified.

Her journey was taking for ever. Heavy traffic, road works, a broken down truck blocking the way. With just a short distance to go, a gaggle of geese suddenly marched across the road. Another hold up!

‘I know’, she thought, ‘I’ll become a lollipop lady! Not only will I work with kids, bit I’ll get my own back for all those times I’ve been brought to a halt!’

.

Incase you are unfamiliar with the term, a lollipop lady/man is someone who helps children to cross the road near a school by standing in the middle of the road and holding up a stick with a round stop sign on it!

“Lollipop Lady” is a new term to me, but I figured it out. Quite applicable, and I hope she does it. I think she’d be a lot of fun 🙂

Clever Keith … coming to our stopping the traffic encounter over here – Airbourne? I’ll be staying out of the way … Cheers – Hilary

Probably, if only to see the Red Arrows. I remember it being the noisiest four days of the year when I lived in Eastbourne!

Great story Keith. Beautiful how a seemingly simple event can change one’s thinking…one may even find a calling and a passion from something that “interrupt” the day. Nice one. I enjoyed the read as always!

Thanks so much, Suzette. So often, chance encounters determine our future.

I’m glad you explained lollipop lady. I was thinking it involved the actual candies.

Thanks, Nancy. I had a feeling it might be job title some would be unfamiliar with!

Steady hours and responsibility seems like a job that would quite her, that is a lollipop lady. But…could she handle the boisterous children.

I have never heard the term lollipop lady but it is a perfect description. I hope she enjoys the work. It is so important, if you can avoid it, to not hate your job.

I hadn’t known the term but your story and image made it clear even without the explanation. A perfect job, she’ll have fun. As did I, reading this.
