It’s a shame you weren’t around for Baaamy’s Got Talent last Sunday, it was fun, Mike’s magic kept going wrong, Suzie’s singing was ear splitting, Pip the Squeak did his farmyard impressions – grunts, snorts, moo’s and cock-a-doodle-doos, Vince the ventriloquist got second prize, a gottle of gear, and Shirley won with her fabulous dance display!
In her youth, Shirley was a ballet dancer, and to this day, whenever she meets someone, instead of a handshake or a kiss on the cheek she does a quick pirouette and that’s how she got her nickname, Shirl the Swirl; “she’s a twin which is why wearing a tutu comes naturally”, Colin quipped, “tutu, two-two, get it?”
“I had a bit of a dance Saturday night”, said Ted, “I was at a fancy dress party and I went as an egg, unfortunately I tripped and went easy-over”; “all white, we get your yolk” chuckled Babs – “it was no joke”, said Ted, “I was rolling around on the floor for ages!”
“Psst psst ”, hissed Suzie from the next table, her hand cupped around her mouth hoping Len wouldn’t hear her, “I’ve brought some of my homemade cakes, they’re filled with blueberries and there’s a swirl of fondant on top” – “OY”, yelled Landlord Len “you can’t bring your own food into my pub…mind you, that pink one looks nice, any chance I could have it?”.
Since his ballet joke received its lukewarm reaction, Colin had been racking his brain for a few one liners which he hoped might get him back on track: “dancers always have to stand on tiptoes, they really should try to find taller ones – actually ballerinas dance on their toes so they don’t wake the audience up – I tried learning to waltz but I took two steps forward then one step back – a skelton was invited to a dance, but he had nobody to go with – a duck’s favourite dance is the quack-step” …. and on and on and on!
It was time to go, and up they all stood, Arthur pointed to the ceiling and spun round, Ted pretended to tap dance, Babs stood on one leg and Colin attempted a curtsey … then off they went – Len strolled out back and watched the swans on the lake.
