…for Rochelle’s Friday Fictioneers on a Wednesday! .
‘
It’s her parents fault for naming her Page. She’s book-mad. Here-a-book, there-a-book, everywhere a book-book! Hundreds of them.
If I lose something, it’s invariably behind some books, under books, inside a book!
There’s a table between our chairs. We can’t see each other for books! I wave to her with my foot sometimes!
‘Time for Page to turn a new leaf’, I thought. I know – Kindle! I got three, there’d be insufficient storage on one. It didn’t go down well.
Kindle anyone? I’m over here behind the Shakespeare stack, to the left of the horror heap, beside the poetry pile!

.
Grab a book to see the squares – if you dare(s)!

Poor logophobic protagonist!
Perfectly summed up! Cheers, Neil.
Haha! The habits don’t change by changing the name.
So true, Sadje!
👍👍👍
They’re useful for travel or reading on the go, otherwise, there’s nothing like a real book.
Absolutely, great travelling companions, full stop!
Delightful read, as always, Keith! I dare say I could be Page–stacks of books everywhere. I vowed I’d never get a Kindle, and haven’t (due to cost). However, when I discovered I could get free books from my library on the app “Libby” (on my tablet), I went All In!! So there’s a gazillion books at the ready, any time. And having enjoyed reading on the tablet–larger print for cataract eyes–I donated most of my “paper-pages” books, only holding onto a few faves that may no longer be in print–thus not on Libby. Hope you’re doing well today, my friend afar!
That makes perfect sense! I no longer hang on to books I’ve read, save 24 of my all-time favourites. I donated over 300 to charity last year. I’m doing just fine, I trust you are too!
We are like-minded, as mine went to a charity too–associated with a thrift store full of bargain-priced treasures. I’m so glad to hear you are well, I like to think of you as a near neighbor. Other than biting off more than I should have chewed (2 April-long challenges), I’m fit as an old fiddle!
and I get laughs at the top o’ the heap in the comedy section
Me too, Beth!
I enjoyed the humour. What would we do without books? I met Page a few times for coffee, she insisted that everything we said was written down otherwise life would be non-binding.
Absolutely. I trust you obeyed, James!
‘Time for Page to turn a new leaf.’ 🤣 Love it. And Kindles – some love them, some just don’t. Your narrator should have checked before his purchase.
Thanks, Margaret. It seemed like a good idea at the time!
Hahaha! Puns galore and this is so true – especially for those who are Kindle-resistant. I am a mix of both so… the piles are not getting as high as they could 😉
As much as I love a proper book, I’ve become a bit of a Kindler of late!
Almost all new books I buy, I get for Kindle, now. Takes up less room and usually is a tad cheaper.
My kind of woman, a reader and one that shuns a kindle for a paperback as well – perfect!
Try as it may, the Kindle will never drive paperbacks away!
I love real books that you can touch , but I also enjoy being able to pop my Kindle into my purse and not having to lug a book along to an appointment of some sort. And the lighted screen of my Kindle allows me to read myself to sleep even in a dark room 🙂
I easily identified with your Page. I’ve always been a bookie 🙂
You are so right, a Kindle has its place in our lives, I use mine on buses and trains, and when away on holiday. But it will never take the place of a proper book.
Nothing like the feel and the smell of a real book. Well done.
…and there’s nothing like the smell of a bookshop!
Thanks for the puns and the laugh 😀
My pleasure, thanks for laughing along!
Dear Keith,
Time for Page to turn a new leaf :D. Love it! Delightful read.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I’m pleased you liked it, thanks so much, Rochelle.
as usual, what a pun read. well done. :)
Thanks so much, plaridel.
Such fun. Tell her about the invention of bookshelves.
I used to be Page. But the older I get the more I treasure my tablet with different reading apps. I can turn on the dark mode–easier on the eyes, and I can zoom in and increase the font size. With a paper book I’d often need magnifying glasses.
What a great idea – IKEA here we come!
Reading from a tablet must be so much more convenient for you.
Such a perfect first sentence for your story. Love the waving with the foot. Pity Poor Page and more her significant other!
Thanks, Lisa, he’s probably got an annoying trait or two as well!
Probably 😉
Haha you truly are king of puns, Keith
Pun royalty! I like that, thanks Maria!
You’re welcome. You deserve it 😁
kindle lacks the soul that a book has
Perfectly put!
I can relate to Page, except I love my Kindle!
I’m with you, Dawn!
I never imagined I’d end up with e-books, but a particularly noisily annoying librarian channelled me down that path. Now I get through three or four a week, selected in peace.
It seems that the irritating librarian did you a favour! When they first appeared, I said, ‘no way’, now I can’t imagine being without one!
This was great; thank you for the laughs! I’m a book-with-pages sort of girl so far…
I am when I’m at home (pages guy, not pages gal!), but Kindles are very useful when travelling!
this was fun! I’m not this bad yet!
