If only…

0Shimmering in the sunlight, disappearing in the shadows. Now I see her, now I don’t.

I hear her. Behind me. She giggles. I look over my shoulder and there she is, peering from behind a pillar with a mischievous grin on her face. Then suddenly, she’s gone only to reappear before me.

I laugh, she laughs, we laugh together.

She hops and skips on patches light and strips of shade, tinkling notes play a pretty tune that echos all around.

‘Let’s play hide ‘n seek’, she cries.

‘Ready or not, here I come’, I reply.

I look around there, behind here. She’s laughing, but where from I can’t work out. One second from here, the next, there.

A sudden silence descends. As I slowly walk forward I hear nothing but my footsteps. She’s gone, but it matters not, for she’ll return, I’m sure.

I awake, climb from my bed and cross to the window. The day is as grey as a dull day can be.

‘If only all dreams were like that’, I say to myself.

I feel a sadness in this piece. Like a father remembering games with his lost daughter. An excellent story. Keith. Well done.

Very clever, Keith, but what a pity it was only a dream…

Oh! I didn’t expect that. It’s a bit sad but also nice since he dreamed of her. Well done Keith
