She never understood why he’d left without putting up some form of resistance, for weeks she’d had been running through what she would say and waiting for the right moment to arrive and when it did, he just went!

It seemed inconceivable that this man, this jealous, controlling man, would suddenly lose interest in who she was seeing and what she was doing, but even then, years later, the thought he might suddenly appear again made her shudder

One night, last August I think it was, a motorcycle courier delivered a package to her house, there was nothing unusual about the package, just a coffee cup she had ordered from a catalogue to replace her special one, the one he’d smashed to pieces during one of his rages.

Normally it would have been delivered during the day by a man in a van, not in the evening by a guy in a full-face crash helmet and biking leathers, and there was something familiar about his voice; what if…no, she was being stupid.

There had been other strange visitors, last Halloween, a masked ghoul that knocked on her door had eyes she felt she had seen before, and just before Christmas, the Santa accompanying some carol singers had a laugh she thought she recognised.

But no, she persuaded herself she was being paranoid, he’d gone; at least, she tried to persuade herself he was gone, but there was always that nagging feeling he was out there somewhere, watching, looking, following … as indeed he was, living his life in the shadows.

I love a good mystery. And a scary one is great. Looking forward to the next chapter.

It sounds like he doesn’t have any better things to do. I wonder if he is some kind of ghost?

You’ve fitted in this word very well in this ongoing story. Very intriguing!

Yikes! Am I being fatalistic saying I’m not overly confident this will end well for our protagonist??
Keep it up, Keith – we’re on the edge of our seats!
