…so it’s time for my Six Sentence Story using this week’s given word, Flush.
.

.
In my first flush of childhood, I experimented with different ways of attracting my Mum’s attention like screaming and stamping my feet, rattling my cot like a chimp in a cage and even throwing my toys all over the floor, but it rarely worked.
In my first flush of youth, I experimented with ways of getting the attention of my school teacher like waving my arms, pulling a funny face, using naughty words and occasionally, letting go a noisy fart but It didn’t get me anywhere.
In my first flush of teendom, I experimented with different ways to get the girl, like splashing myself all over with Old Spice, wearing a baseball cap at a jaunty angle, writing romantic poems, walking with a swagger, and even stuffing a tennis ball down the front of my Speedos, but nothing helped.
In my first flush of adulthood, I experimented with hobbies, but when I went fishing I felt sorry for the worm, when I had a go at painting I got more paint on me than the canvas, when I played golf I spent most of the day in the bunker, when I tried doing a jigsaw my fingers became sore from jiggling the pieces so I decided to try visiting and all of the 42700 pubs in the country, but I’ve still got 47681 to go.
And now, in my first flush of old age, I’ve decided to stop experimenting because I’ve learned that what will be will be, nothing I can do will change it.
So I’ll stay as I am until my first flush of mortality!
.

Thanks to Denise at GirlieOnTheEdge for hosting.
You’ve written a profound truth Keith in this story.
Thanks so much, Sadje.
You’re most welcome
Wow! Keith, you knocked this one out of the story telling the storytelling park from start to finish. And what a powerfully deep ending…”first flush of mortality”
Thanks for your lovely comment, Suzette.
My pleasure, Keith. Happy writing!
Nice description: “rattling my cot like a chimp in a cage”. I also liked the part about being sorry for the worm. Well done!
I’m pleased you liked it Frank, thank you.
Nice one Keith
Thanks, Di!
Good place to be
Indeed!
I have found in old age, experimenting isn’t needed because experience has taught me what I like and what I want nothing to do with and that is enough to keep me happy. Maybe not wiser but happier.
You seem perfectly contented, Patricia!
What a creative way to tell one’s life story!
Thanks, Margaret!
The repetition of “In my first flush of…” is creating such an emotional anchor at your Six, Keith.
Humor is always a sign of intelligence, especially when pointed towards oneself.
You have hidden underneath that humorous account all that is to be understood.
(I don’t know about you but I never quitted my Old Spice)
I enjoy a bit of self-deprecation, there’s nothing funnier than laughing at oneself! Long live Old Spice!
I’m an Aqua Velva golden girl but I love you just the way you are, dear Keith! A delightful write.
I can smell it from here! Thanks, Nancy.
Frank stepped on my primary wordage compliment: the “rattling my cot like a chimp in a cage” line.
That, for me set the tone, and (once again another commentor (Spira/Nick) hit the mark on the power of repetition (of ‘In the first flush of…’) as it sets a tone that provides a very effective contrast to the Six over all, and, of course, sets up the ending.
cool</em< Six
Repetition such as this is not something I’d normally use, so I’m delighted it seems to have had the desired effect. Once again, thank you for your encouraging words.
Oh don’t give up! So many new pubs, new hobbies are invented every day, and so many singe woman looking for the right guy. Remember, if you want to get someone’s attention…whisper!
