Every Friday our prayer group sends hand-written postcards to the people we prayed for on the church list that day. Everyone in the group signs. Sometimes we get a hand-written reply, too.
My “day-after-Thanksgiving tradition” is to write out my Christmas cards. I make a big deal of it, too. An assortment of cards, my address book, my pen, stamps, return address labels and my cup of coffee decorate the dining room table where I busy myself most of the day with my cards. Turkey soup from Thanksgiving’s leftovers simmers in the kitchen while the first strains of Christmas music play on the radio. It’s one of my favorite days of the year. The last hand-written pieces of mail I received were Christmas cards in December and birthday cards in February; I cannot recall receiving a letter in years, though.
What a wonderful day that must be! Each year the number of Christmas cards I receive, and send, seems to decline. I hope they don’t become a thing of the past. A message on a screen just isn’t the same.
It is a wonderful day! The number of cards I receive and send is getting smaller, too, but I will not give up this tradition I enjoy so much! I happily discovered when my son got married, his wife’s mother and one of her aunts send cards for every occasion. Now I’m not just limited to Christmas and birthdays!
Wow! I wrote a similar one 😀! Maybe we are craving for some handwritten message.
So you did! You could well be right.
yes 😊!
well done, and I am a hand-written letter writer, one of a dying breed
A few years ago three other bloggers and I thought we’d try sending hand-written letters to each other. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long!
at least you tried
Nice little tale. Always a delight to receive a personal letter!
I’m sure it would be!
Great graphics Keith.
I agree with Sadje 🙂
👍🏼
I’m really pleased you like then Maria, thank you.
Thanks, Sadje, they are half the fun for me!
You’re welcome! Very impressive
I got s couple of birthday cards this week.😺
Happy birthday!
I actually got one today Keith and have four to post tomorrow to friends in their 80s. Have a great weekend
That’s wonderful! I’m so out of practice that my handwriting’s almost illegible!
My handwriting is a lot to be desired now as I find it hard to hold a pen for any length of time.
I write handwritten letters often. They are special!
Good for you, I really ought to try writing some myself.
Nothing better than seeing an envelope, hand-written… Lovely, Keith
At least greetings cards have to be handwritten!
Not even! I mostly get electronic ones now… though there is one that is waiting for my official birthday to be opened 😉
Now you come to mention it, I’ve had a few!
Better than nothing, of course 🙂
The last one I received was Christmas from a friend✍️ – so lovely ❤️
That must have been lovely. Perhaps I should consider doing something similar!

What a wonderful idea, Mimi.

Xmas cards, I usually send and receive handwritten letters . Thanks Keith for your piece.
My memory of the last hand-written letter I received has not survived. Good point well-made, Keith.
