A flash of fiction…

for Friday Fictioneers.

How nice of Sandy and Claud to invite me.

“Ours is the house beside the stream with a Christmas tree outside”.

Unfortunately, I chose the wrong side of the stream and plodded through mud and muck rather than using a footpath. I got splattered and splashed as I slipped and slid. An on-looking duck thought I was quackers!

With the welcoming tree in sight, I crossed the stream. It was unexpectedly deep, but I made it.

I rang the bell.

“Hello, who are you?” asked a bemused lady as I made a mess of her doorstep.

It was the wrong house.

dales-old-boucherville-sceneThanks to Rochelle for hosting and to Dale for the photo.

Prod Froggie to join in the fun!

Hopefully she steered him in the right direction!

Oh dear, a few too many mulled wines before setting off. I hope the lady let him dry off. A bit of seasonal fun, almost Vicar of Dibbly humour…

Vicar of Dibley – sorry wrong spelling, it must have been the non-alcoholic pre-breakfast tipple.

You’ve reminded me of when she fell into the pothole – one of the greatest TV comedy moments of all time! RIP Emma Chambers aka Alice Tinker.

Moments can be magical, like the brown and sticky joke. It is a stick.

    Dear Keith,

To quote Chief Dan George, “Some days the magic works and some days it doesn’t.” Fun story. Poor muddy froggy.

Reminds me of the GPS telling me I had arrived at my destination. I was in the middle of the freeway.

And the moral of that story is… Oh, it will come to me sometime.
Great take on the prompt–and a neat prompt pic from Dale. Houses very Quebecois, with their dormer windows. 🙂

An inevitable outcome, I suppose. Great fun, as always.

Just a note: the ducks thought your MC had gone “quakers”– I read “quaker” like Quaker Oatmeal. You need a “c” between the a and the k–quack like a duck. And please forgive my inner English teacher. Sometimes she just won’t be restrained 😦

Thanks so much for pointing out my missing C, Linda! Sometimes, no matter how often you proofread a piece, mistakes go unnoticed! Duly corrected.

Well he is a frog! (looking at your graphic) Happy Holidays, Keith. I’ve enjoyed your stories all year long, including this one.

That’s true! He should be used to a bit of mud!

Thank you so much for your kind words Lisa, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate them.

To think that there was more than one house with a Christmas tree outside. Poor guy. Great fun.

I think he needs a hot toddy just about now. Maybe the bemused lady will turn out to be something more than just the wrong house.

Anther fine fix you’ve gotten yourself into, Keith. Or, Sandy and Claud do not like you. Or, maybe this is Sandy’s Mum. Fun story, Keith.

Anyone can make a mistake. Hopefully not get too muddy doing it, though.

    Love the Christmassy pic!
