for The Sunday Muse.
.
I prefer not to reuse pieces I’ve written before, but I’ve given my muse the weekend off for good behaviour and have no choice but to resurrect something she came up with in 2007. I’ve risked her wrath by expanding it slightly, so hopefully, she won’t see it!
If you read my previous story you’ll know that I’m not doing audios this weekend as I have a cold and don’t wish to pass it on to you!

I was attaching my new mirror to the wall. A lovely mirror. Amazingly it seemed to make me look even more handsome than I already am!
Screw one in, screw two perfect, screw three spot-on, screw four…jammed.
One very angry face stared back at me.
I pushed, I twisted, I cursed, but would it move? No.
The screwdriver slipped banging the glass right in the middle of my nose. I leapt backwards, momentarily forgetting it was just my reflection. Oh no, my beautiful mirror was smashed to smithereens.
They say that breaking a mirror’s bad luck. That was enough bad luck for one day, surely nothing else could go wrong. I decided to pop to the shop and buy another one.
I trudged to my car. Guess what, a door mirror was smashed. Double trouble!
I slouched back indoors, climbed the stairs and crawled into bed. I swear my reflection in the bedroom window grinned at me.

Thanks so much to Carrie for hosting.

Wonderful story Keith. I smiled when you said the mirror made you look “more handsome.” ..😊
Perhaps there’s are some days it is safer to sleep in. 👍
Mirrors can be very cruel sometimes!
Ah…yes…sigh.
LOL
Nice one you made me smile😊
Happy Sunday
much❤love
I’m delighted it did, thanks, Gillena.
Good one and well done
Thanks so much, Beth.
Them’s the breaks. 🙂
Good tale, though. Wishing you a quick recovery.
Absolutely! First cold for many a year and I’m quite enjoying the novelty of it!
Hoping you feel better soon! The story made me smile (maybe ruefully?)–nothing like a string of frustrations in home updates. 🙂
Any kind of smile is gratefully accepted! Thanks so much.
So you must be the one who gave me this awful cold! 🤧 My favorite mirrors are the ones that make us look 15 lbs lighter! Fun story except for the 14 years bad luck – 7 years per mirror, as the superstition dictates. Best to stay in bed!
Guilty as charged! That’s a lot of bad luck, I’ll heed your advice!
A great tongue in cheek response. Thanks for the humour, Keith! Very refreshing!
Hank
Thanks for your kind words, Hank.
Yes, the humour is very enjoyable! Good one.
I’m pleased you liked it, thank you!
Rather naughty of the mirror to cause all this trouble.
Very very naughty!
😉
Ah yes, we find mirrors all around us if we but look.
Mirrors, cameras – they are all watching us!
Great – your ‘reflection’ made me smile 🙂
I’m pleased! Thanks so much.
Heeheehee! Some days are like that.
Aren’t they just?!!
*Grinning* Guess it’s just one of those days! Another great one, Keith.
Thanks, Dora, we all have one of those now and again!
So you’ve been consistently funny for at least 15 years, then, Keith? 😀
~David
Time flies when you’re having fun, David!
😄
Feel better soon AND stay away from mirrors! Another delightful write ….
Love this Keith! I have a weird relationship with mirrors in real life. LOL I look at my reflection and think “who to heck is that?!” Thank you for participating at the Muse even when your muse is needing a rest.
Oh mirrors, they can curse and bless. Mine lately as just been telling me I’m old.
Oh no! 🙂 Ha ha! Well at least your 14 years bad luck has passed now that it’s 2022! 😀
Mirrors are rarely our friends.
