For Sadje’s What Do You See? photo prompt.

I sometimes get asked why I don’t write more poetry. If you read this you’ll discover why!
Here goes –
If I was a bird
and wanted some kids
I’d build me a nest
from sticks and some twigs
– that reminds me of a corny joke I once heard – where does a Russian bird sleep? In a commu-nest!
I’d lay me some eggs
three maybe four
A spare one too
‘case one drops on the floor
– I dropped a box of eggs in the supermarket yesterday. Honestly, I’m not yolking!
Then I’d sit and I’d sit
and I’d sit and I’d sit
Bored and restless
and sleeping a bit
– at least if birds had mobile phones, they could tweet!
Eventually,
a shell will crack
And there it will be
my first baby chack chick
– what did the egg say to the comedian? You crack me up! Not funny? All-white!
Then one by one
the others are born
One in the evening
the others at dawn
– I wonder if birds give their chicks names? Flick, Mick, Dick, Roger…
I’d fly here and there
finding some food
to fill up the tums
of my hungry brood
– if you thought the puns couldn’t get any worse … what do you call a clever omelette? An egg-head!
In no time at all
they’ll be ready to fly
Nice to have had them
farewell and goodbye!
And there you have it, a poem. I did warn you!
