for Six Sentence Stories where the given word is Coffee.
‘
.
It was a normal January day, grey, a light drizzle and a chill breeze as I sat at my usual seat in Starbucks beside the window, my hands cradling a steaming mug of coffee.
Outside the street was busy, shoppers going this way and that under a rippling canopy of dripping brollies when someone caught my gaze, a girl carrying a bright yellow umbrella as though she was beneath a sun all of her own.
She held out her hand out I heard her speak, but her lips didn’t move, ‘come’ she said ‘fly with me’.
Suddenly I was standing by her side and she was looking into my eyes, her face expressionless, my hand held in hers as we began to drift upwards.
I found myself looking down at the miserable scene below then slowly everything became a blur, I looked up and her yellow umbrella beamed sunlight into my squinting eyes, and a smile beamed across my face.
A sense of warmth spread through my body, then I realised I’d spilt my very hot coffee into my lap and everything had returned to normal.

I hate it when that happens – away in a lovely dwam and then, ouch! Reality jumps in with its tackety boots. You had me floating there, Keith. .

Oh my, that one surely did evoke some warm and sweet feelings inside as if I were a kid reading my favorite fairytales again… And the twist in the end, was like getting burnt by a hot beverage and pulled back into reality. Thank you for making me smile, I really did enjoy the piece!
