What I saw!

for Sadje’s What Do You See? prompt where the picture is by Ben White.

I’ve written this story around a poem I wrote for my granddaughter. I’m sure she won’t mind me using it!

See if you can read this poem.

     It’s very long.

No, it’s not, off you go.

Pigs grunt, cows moo, frogs cr…cr…

Croak

     …croak, doves coo…  What’s coo?

It’s the noise they make, coo, coo. Carry on.

Sheep baa, birds sing…  No, they don’t, they whistle.

They whistle songs!

Bees buzz, wasps sting…  I don’t like wasps, they’re scary.

Nor do I! Keep going

Ducks quack, cocks crow, mice speak…

No, squeak.

     …squeak, winds blow.

You’re doing well. I said you could do it!

Branches wave, screams…streams run, clouds float, past the sun…  I’ve nearly finished!

Yes, one verse to go!

Swans gl…glide, fishes dart, ponies canter,  bulls…  I CAN’T SAY THAT, it’s a rude word!

Yes, you can!

     Mummy will tell me off!

She won’t hear you.

     Okay… Bulls FART!

Hehehe!

     Hehehe!

Mummy won’t be very happy with you! (Or maybe she knows you by now.)

The way you used the expression “tell me off” interests me. My friends of Dutch extraction use it as “say it’s off.” As in “We were going to visit them next week, but we had to tell them off.” We CDNs use it in the sense of a sharp scolding. “His Mom really told him off when he tracked mud on the carpet.” Or like, “Mummy will tell you off if her daughter repeats that word in public.”

We too use it the way you do Christine. She was worried she’d be reprimanded, although that’s not a word she’d use just yet!

Fun take on the photo prompt, Keith.
The ending has the forbidden that all kids seem to enjoy.
