‘Look Mummy, the fairies are back, they are dancing round and round’
She often saw them, all I could see was a ring of mushrooms in the grass but I never told her.
Maria was born poorly, and unable to walk unaided. Often, she’d lean on her window ledge, tapping in rhythm as she sang along with the fairies.
We knew her life would be short, but the end came far sooner than we expected.
This morning when I opened the curtains I saw a ring of fairies dancing round and round, and the prettiest of them all was Maria.
