A tiddly tale …

I looked every part the archaeologist and as I gingerly clambered across the ancient ruins. I was fully prepared. A torch for peering deep below the slabs, a brush with which to flicker any artefacts I might find. My mission? To locate one particular item and nothing would stand in my way.

Was it here? No. Was it there? Maybe.  We’ll see.

The sun was sinking in the west, time was my enemy, but I’d not be defeated.

Suddenly it appeared. Imagine my joy! My mobile phone, the phone I must have dropped when I sat to eat my sandwich the previous day!

Love the frog-in-a-frog Image! Good thing he found his phone, or he might have had one hefty bill!

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 23, 2022 / 17:38

Imagine what the bill would be in a thousand years’ time! Thanks, Christine.

I have lost both a gold bracelet and a pair of sunglasses, only to find them a year later in a flower bed. At least I could call my cell phone with my antique landline.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 23, 2022 / 17:50

My landline hasn’t ding-a-linged since my Mum died a couple of years ago, but given your experience, I guess it still has its uses!

Archaeologists of the future will be discovering these strange devices everywhere. What will they make of them I wonder 🤔

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 24, 2022 / 15:40

I wonder too. I can’t imagine how many are lost daily worldwide!

  5. Bill's avatar Bill March 23, 2022 / 22:52

Very clearly a life or death story. Well done, Keith.

Ah, nothing like finding one’s phone baking in the sand of time … 😉

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 24, 2022 / 16:28

…hopefully with a bit of battery power left! Cheers Na’ama.

      • Na'ama Yehuda's avatar Na'ama Yehuda March 24, 2022 / 18:11

LEFT? I thought the battery will have gorged on solar power! 😉

For some that might be the most valuable item to be found in the ruins. Good one, Keith.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 24, 2022 / 17:26

Too true -though I sometimes wish I could lose mine!

  9. Mason Bushell's avatar Mason Bushell March 24, 2022 / 16:23

Phones have bad habits of taking off without telling us don’t they? Nice one, Keith!

      • Mason Bushell's avatar Mason Bushell March 24, 2022 / 18:10

Haha! I dont own one these days. I lost it lots when I did though.

Some things are real important to us.

  11. David Stewart's avatar David Stewart March 25, 2022 / 00:17

How true this is. I’ve embarked on archeological expeditions in my house just to find my phone, let alone if I dropped it somewhere else. He’s happier than if he’d found a golden treasure, I’m sure.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 25, 2022 / 13:23

I’m sure you’re right David. They love to play Hide ‘N Seek!

You made me smile, just great

  13. rochellewisoff's avatar rochellewisoff March 25, 2022 / 13:32

    Dear Keith,

While not an archeological artefact, definitely a welcome find. Now he can catch up on his text messages. You made me chuckle. Good one!

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 26, 2022 / 17:21

Technology moves so fast that even 10-year-old phones look like ancient relics! Delighted you enjoyed it, Rochelle.

Thank goodness our intrepid archaeologist found his prize! More valuable than some dusty old vase 🙂

If I sing everybody will run away ! Same with my husband and son ! Only the cats sing nice in this family !

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 26, 2022 / 17:11

Clearly, you are all known for your caterwauling, except the cat!

  16. James McEwan's avatar James McEwan March 26, 2022 / 09:58

I am glad you found your mobile, clearly not a modern Smart one but an old relic from the 80s, no doubt. A treasure of sorts.
I like the gentle humour that made me smile.

    • Keith's Ramblings's avatar Keith's Ramblings March 26, 2022 / 17:08

Yep, and old relic’s old relic! Thanks for grinning along James.

He’s so well set up! He must have had lots of experience in losing and finding things to have developed such a useful skill set – and equipment. Fun story.

  19. msjadeli's avatar msjadeli March 27, 2022 / 04:19

I enjoyed the image you created as much as the story itself. I’m glad he found his artifact successfully 🙂

        You’re welcome, Keith.
