Natalie, known as Nat to her mates was fascinated by butterflies so she thought she’d catch a few, study them closely then let them go again.

Net in hand, she walked into the meadow and swiped it hither and thither, but to no avail as the winged wonders saw what was going on and kept well clear.

After an hour all she’d caught were some nits, a couple of spiders and a bumblebee.

Not one to admit defeat she thought she’d take one final massive sweep.

Unfortunately, it got caught in the branch of a hazel tree and that’s when she realised her idea was nuts!

It will always be remembered as the day nutty Nat’s net caught nits, not butterflies!

Oh those vowels! You’ve given a perfect example of why languages are hard to learn. Especially words with “i”, which foreigners will usually pronounce as “ee,.” like pick becoming peek. But English tongues have confused née and nue” a few times, too.

You make some very good points Christine. I can’t imagine having to learn English as a second language!

        English grammar’s easy enough, they say…it’s the spelling that’s a knightmare. 😉

Great fun, Keith. Completely nutty. To nit or not to net, nat is the question.

So much fun! Although why did people ever catch butterflies with a net anyway? Doesn’t it damage their little wings and then they can’t fly and something comes along and eats them?

This was so much fun to read. Thanks for bringing a little laughter to your readers. You just need someone to illustrate this one. It would be a cute little picture book for children and one the parents would enjoy reading to them and with them as the children quickly want to say tongue twisting last line.
