A-Z Challenge Day One

Short stories featuring musical instruments and those that play them.

.

zzzzzzz.

aaaThe local Morris Dancers asked me to play my accordion for them. Harold, who usually provides their musical accompaniment, suffered a punctured squeezebox. It’s not really my cup of tea, but I reluctantly agreed.

Twelve blokes in gaudy clothes, funny hats and bells on their legs frolicked around waving bits of cloth in the air. They circled and zig-zagged, hopped and skipped, all having a jolly good time.

I, however, was becoming bored, so I thought I’d have a bit of fun. I started playing faster and faster and faster!

It was so funny! As they gathered pace, they started colliding and treading on each other’s toes. Dick went red in the face, Bob poked Bill in the eye, and Fred elbowed George in his tummy winding him!

Unfortunately, they suddenly got in a complete muddle and begin tripping each other up, then down they all dropped like a strike in a bowling alley!

I was never asked to play again, I can’t think why!

You must be quite the accomplished accordion player to be able to go so fast. Fun story!

Actually Iain, as an Englishman who regularly had Morris Dancers in his pub garden, I have to admit I don’t see the attraction!

Yes, a should have said a certain select few English people understand the attraction!! 🙂

Aw! I love accordions. It’s not his fault those guys couldn’t dance. I’m sure they’ll get over it once the bruises heal. 😉

    That was tons of fun.
Imagine what your MC could have done with a set of drums!!

Could anyone explain Morris Dancers to me?

    Thanks, Keith.

Imagine! Actually it’s a form of English folk dancing which goes back to the 1600’s. It’s not to everyone’s taste! Cheers Stu.

That’s the typical tactic of a reluctant worker. Do such a bad job that no one asks you to do it again. I look forward to your 26 stories this year.

It certainly worked in his case! Thanks so much Unishta.

Easy to picture the twelve blokes in gaudy clothes lying in a heap on the floor . Sounds like an April Fool’s joke to me, Keith. Thanks for the laugh. Also enjoyed our ‘gottles of gear’ in the 6-sentence exercise. Looking forward to “B”

I can just picture that! Laughing even more than I normally do at Morris Dancers.

I love it. Reminds me of the Polish weddings I used to go to as a child. The accordion player could really get things going.
