A handful of words …

for Friday Fictioneers

Simon’s a bit of a poet. Syme the Rhyme we call him. When I mentioned our beer was cloudy, off he went!

“There’s another world above the clouds

An unspoilt world untouched by man”.

“Simon, should I get Sinead the Barmaid to change them?”

“A world where nothing hides the sun.

A world where time has not begun”.

“Syme, shall I…”

“A world which knows not needless strife

Untainted by the yearns of life”.

“ Simon, beer, cloudy!”

“It’s miles above our troubled land

Unspoilt by greed and human hand”.

He stopped and lifted his glass.

“Do you think this beer’s a bit cloudy?” he asked.

    Dear Keith,

Twould seem that Syme the Rhyme has no time to listen. You made me laugh.

    Shalom and Happy New Year,

    Rochelle

Have you tried a large wet fish across his gub?
    That sometimes attracts the attention.

Well, hey, it’s not such a bad poem. He should write it down before he forgets. I gather a few beer can mess with the memory.
Happy New Year! What rhymes with shloshed?

Actually, I wrote the poem first thinking I’d do something different this week – then I slipped back into my old ways! Happy New Year to you too – I’ll ask Simon for help with that one!

LOL. Being in the throes of the poetic muse means never having to say you’re sorry. (Happy New Year, Keith! Hope all your mugs of beer stay unclouded.)

Love the contrast between the very grounded, human dialogue and the heightened language of the poem.

Teehee! Syme the Rhyme sounds like a good person to have a drink with – you’d never lack for interest, would you? He’s a great comic creation, Keith, and I hope we hear more from him!

Syme’s head is in the clouds so how could he tell at first? Fun story. Happy Holidays!

Ha, he may wax lyrical but he got the point in the end 🙂 Good poem!

While he’s not listening to his chums, those rhymes are rather lovely…
    Happy 2021, Keith!

I also have a friend you in a constant ‘noise’ but never takes the time to listen to what he is saying. Enjoyed!
