I’m something of a loganamnosist* and this month I will resurrect as many obsolete words as I can within short pieces of flash fiction.

* (n) someone with an obsession for discovering long-forgotten words.

 

To start us off –

a

Absquatulate (v) to discreetly leave a gathering or party without informing the host.

Aliment (n) food; nourishment.

Oh no! Look what I’ve done. I don’t think anyone noticed, at least I hope not.  But honestly, serving red wine at a party in a room with a white carpet is asking for trouble.  Someone’s bound to spill some.  Don’t you dare rat on me!

Actually, it looks quite pretty, almost as if it’s meant to be there.  If I drip a drop more just there, and a dribble to the right, it’ll look like a pretty rose.  Then if I accidentally drop some of that green guacamole dippy stuff and tread on it, it’ll have some leaves!   Shall I?   No one’s looking, so here goes!  

Hey, that’s great; a magnificent work of art! 

Time to grab a handful of aliment and absquatulate methinks.  Disappear like that graffiti artist that paints pictures on walls without being seen.  What’s his name?  Banksy, that’s him.

Just think, one day this carpet will be worth a fortune. The Rose: Artist unknown!

    Say, you really have come up with some nice ones. However, I suspect your hostess will be taking some sort of castigatory action over that rose incident. 😉

      I have, but usually because I’m bored! Not sure it’s a word I’ll use very often, it’s a bit clumsy – like my narrator!

    Great job! I can imagine the reviews I would get if I used absquatulate in one of my books…although that’s something many of my characters would actually do lol.

    Haha. That was funny! Reminds me of my younger one. That must be how his mind thinks for all the surfaces esp the walls are filled with his elaborate artwork presently.

    Accidental artist aka the careless naughty guest had a great time at the cost of host. That’s a little unfair for the host!
    I loved the tale and the cover-up monologue in the mind of the guest.

    Hilarious! What with all the covid etc, I do hope no one puts bleach on the rose she made. Is it a she? It just felt like a she to me. Aliment is a dicey word – one little typo and it can turn into something quite different.

    That’s a great start to your A-Z.

    Would discreetly leaving be the same as sneaking out? If so, I have been an absquatulate kind of person on occassion. I don’t even know if I used the word right in the sentence, but I tried. : ) Great start to the challenge.
