My friend Rosey and I went to London to see our thespian mate Gascoigne in his latest Shakespearian role.
The curtains swept back, and there he was, poised to deliver a scene-setting soliloquy. Rosey decided to offer encouragement by yelling “Cock a leg Gaza”. Everyone turned and stared.
“What’s wrong?” she mouthed.
“You shouldn’t shout and anyway, the phrase starts ‘break’ not ‘cock!’” I whispered which started her giggling.
Unfortunately, the play was rather boring. I kept yawning and Rosey nodded off, but at the end, the audience applauded – except Rosey who stuck two fingers in her mouth and whistled!
I can’t take her anywhere!
There are loads more stories about My Friend Rosey HERE
Friday Fictioneers is hosted by Rochelle and Ted Strutz provided the photo.
Prod the frog to join in the fun!

Great fun, Keith
Thanks so much, Neil
You should’ve known better than to let Rosey out for an evening at the theatre 🙂
I love an adventure! Cheers Iain.
I don’t agree with you. Going somewhere with Rosey is great fun! 🙂
Actually…yes, it is!
Odd pairs spend a lifetime together, at times 🙂
Often they do! Cheers Reena
Hi Keith – I hate to think what Rosey’d be like on the way home … especially if it was a train journey to our coast. I thought you were going to say she giggled her way through the show – and then got Gazza kicked out … fun story – cheers Hilary
She giggles her way through life! I decided not to take her to the tennis! Pleased you liked it Hilary
Great tale! It was really fun reading. Esp when Rosie is so interesting 🙂
Fun to write too! I’ve posted over 100 stories about her to date and there are loads more to come! Thanks so much.
Is she based on some real person? She seems so alive! 🙂
Between you and me, she’s not! I’m not sure what that says about me!
That says ‘You’ve made a truly realistic and believable and 3 dimensional character’
That’s so great!! <3 🙂
A fun night at the theater–for Rosey, anyway 🙂
Every night is a fun night with Rosey!
Rosey sounds like quite a hoot. I think he so should keep this one
Life’s a laugh with Rosey! Cheers Larry
Never a dull moment with Rosey, is there?
Definitely not! Fun though.
Dear Keith,
Rosey seems like quite a character. 😉 Cute story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I can’t imagine my blog without her! Thanks Rochelle.
You can dress Rosey up…
Indeed! Cheer Mimi
Cock a leg! So funny. I like Rosey.
Typically Rosey! Thanks Jilly
You could never call her boring. Irritating perhaps, but never boring.
Hilarious, Keith. At least Gaza knew he had the support and the audience applauded. An evening with Rosey certainly doesn’t sound boring. You’re right about not taking her to see tennis. Well written. 😀 — Suzanne
I have to admit my mobile phone rang during a big tennis match the other day – how embarrassing was that?
Very cute.
Most of the time! Cheers Shirley
You should have known that taking her to a Shakespeare play was just asking for trouble… reminds me of that opera scene in Pretty Woman 🙂
…now you mention it! Thanks so much.
Haha! Broad grin on face!
The solemnity of many productions of The Bard’s plays actively invites lampooning, don’t you think? I’m with Rosie – Cock a leg, Gazza!
Back in his day, such heckling was normal I’m sure! Thanks Penny.
Keith,
I had to giggle over this one. I hope you’re not easily embarrassed. lol Thanks for the fun share.
Not any more! Thanks so much Cathy
ok now, you’re just pulling my leg. she’s not that bad. 🙂
Wanna bet? Cheers plaridel!
Haha. One thing you say about Rosey–she’s not boring! Fun read, Keith.
That’s for sure! Pleased you enjoyed it.
Love Rosey! She’s my kind of friend. I also love the way you create a scene, Keith. Well-done! =)
Thanks Brenda. It’s not easy whittling down my Rosey tales to 100 words, so I’m pleased it worked okay!
Yay Rosey!! Really wish she were real…LOL!

So do I – most of the time!
She’s the life of the party sounds like.
Always! Thanks so much.
You are welcome, Keith.
Rosey has an abundance of energy and a unique sense of humour. She does not fit in regular crowd.
She doesn’t, but she amuses them!
I just love it when people are real, and unpretentious. It’s so tempting sometimes to do something outrageous just to bring people back down to earth, but I usually resist. Three cheers for Rosie. Our local classical radio station had an ongoing discussion recently about the practice of not applauding between movements of classical pieces, and how it wasn’t always the rule.
I’ve never understood that practice, but there’s always someone who claps anyway – usually Rosey! Thanks Margaret.
I like Rosey. I think she’d find me as boring as the play, but I’d find her as entertaining as your story.
I’m sure she wouldn’t! Thanks for dropping by.
Looks like Rosey was after Gascoigne’s attention with her enthusiastic reaction. “Hey, look I am over here.”
Did she enjoy her sleep?
She did, but thanks to her snoring, those close to her certainly did not!
I loved this on, Keith. I felt every cringeworthy moment and posted a link on my FB page as our kids are into the performing arts.
Best wishes
Rowena
Rowena, thanks so much! That’s most kind of you.
Thank you for the much needed giggle. Rosey is my favorite recurring character in all of the blogosphere!
If I had my way, every story I write would be about Rosey, but I think my readers will find it a bit to much of a good thing!
One of the first short story writers I read was Ellen Gilchrist who wrote many, many short stories from youth to adulthood about a character name Rhoda. Maybe you should create an anthology. It might be fun seeing who Rosey was as a kid. I’m sure she has an interesting view on things.
Now that’s an idea! Cheers Sascha
Reblogged this on Sascha Darlington's Microcosm Explored and commented:
A giggle for you!
That’s really kind of you Sascha, thank you.
Hahaha, a fun loving companion. Cheers to Rosie.
A bit of Rosey now and again does me good! Thanks for joining in the fun.
I think I would get along with Rosey. I always do or say the wrong thing, and I’m never quite sure why it’s wrong. It’s good of you to explain her improprieties. People just shake their heads at me and never explain what I did wrong.
Oh yes, you are definitely two of a kind! Thanks so much dropping by.
But her shout might have been the highlight of the show.
I can assure you it was! Cheers Alice.
Rosey sounds like a hoot. Although I would be hiding from the embarrassment.
You get used it in time! Thanks Tessa
This was a cute one! 😀
Nicely done! 🙂
Delighted you liked it, thank you.
Most welcome! 🙂
That’s so kind of you, thank you
A funny story. The poor friend on stage, there’s nothing more distracting than people who call out. But they love wolf whistles at the end!
Very true! In Shakespeare’s day it would have been normal behavior.
Gazza is on stage? I thought his whole life was public theatre, Rosey is not too far off 🙂
That’s true, on both counts!
Loved your story, Keith. You deserve a pint for this one.
