‘
For Six Sentence Stories where the given word is Yield’
.
;
.
Arthur was enjoying a well earned pint at The Baaamy Inn after another day going back and forth in his combine harvester ; “it’s not been a bad yield this year considering the lack of rain”, he said, “a lot of my fellow croppers have had disappointing harvests, drought is becoming a growing problem”.
“Fruity Freda’s had a good year, I was talking to her at the market this morning”, said Ted, “you should see her strawberries, they are enormous, I asked her what she put on them, cow dung, fertiliser, whatever, and she said ‘no, I prefer sugar and cream’, anyway I bought a couple of punnets along with some apples and pears and then my eyes nearly popped out when I saw the size of her melons, they…” – “OY” shouted landlord Len, “we don’t discuss ladies private parts in my pub!”
“I had another argument with my wife”, said George,”I wanted chocolate spread on my pancakes and she said I should have lemon juice, well, she became quite bitter about it so I did what I always do in such situations, yield – the other day she said ‘one more word from you and I won’t speak to you for a week’, so I said ’promise?’ – it didn’t go down too well, then she complained that I never help with the laundry, I threw the towel in”.
“What’s going to happen when you retire Arthur?” asked Babs, “your farm’s been in the family for generations, but your lad went off to work in a bank”; “Yea, he was interested in money from an early age, always looking for high yield saving accounts etcetera, he even ventured into stock and shares, but lately he’s been having second thoughts, it seems investment banking has less interest, pardon the pun, so he might end up farming yet!”
“What’s best crop to talk to?” asked Colin, “corn because they’re all ears – in Winter you harvest crops with an ice sickle – pumpkins are absolutely gourd-geous – I bought shares in Old Macdonad’s Farm, now I’m the C-i-E-i-O – my wife complained that I never say nice things about her family so I said ‘your mother-in-law’s much nicer than mine’ – we argued about which vowel was the most important, I won – she said I have no sense of direction, I left right away – fish keep their money in river banks – 007 invests his money in Bonds. Stocks and Bonds….”
Len hasn’t held a karaoke night for ages, he really dosn’t enjoy them, but the regulars have been begging him to have one again so he had no choice but to yield – we’ll hear the usual line up, Yellow Submarine, You’ll Never Walk alone and no doubt Suzie will do the song she last time yelled!
…but not next week, as I’ll be enjoying some R&R in Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen!
.

here’s a funny thing about your Six this week:
“…it seems investment banking has less interest, pardon the pun,”
funny in the ‘did you that?’ at 3:00 in the morning… I spent the rest of the Six trying to sneak up on each sentence
good job!
(I yield the floor…)
