I’d set the scene; sweet scented candles, a fragrant floral bouquet and glasses of her favourite wine.
She entered the room smiling, a smile the like of which I’d never seen before. I stood, we embraced, we sat, we looked into each others eyes. What we had was special.
I didn’t say anything, words weren’t necessary. I just took her hand in mine and began to place a sparkling diamond ring on her finger.
She suddenly pulled away, stood, then walked off saying not a word.
The table is still as I left it last night. Now she’s gone. Why?

Thanks to Rochelle for hosting Friday Fictioneers

Oh no… apparently he is not very good at “reading the room”, so to speak… Poor bugger.
So it seems. Hopefully he kept the receipt for the ring so he can at least get his money back!
I sure hope he did!!
Well, that’s just rude!
I quite agree!
Oh no!
Sadly, yes!
This is distressing!! Hope it’s fiction.
It’s fiction!
What a relief!!
If the rings what set her off- she wasn’t looking for a commitment. Be happy she didn’t accept the ring- and fill him in later. Wonderful write!
You read my thoughts exactly! Thanks, Jodi.
My first thought is that she is a ghost.
I didn’t think of that, Lisa – I wonder…..
There’s more to this than meets the eye. Naturally, our sympathies are with him, but would they still be if we knew more?
Therein lies the question!
NO Keith!!….I had so wanted it to be a happy ending… can’t you rewrite it? 🥺🙏🏼 (signed heartbroken from Wales)
I’ll keep an eye on them and rewrite it if things improve! Mor drist😒
😅
LOL. An old flame told me recently that he had planned on proposing before I abruptly broke up with him. Life happens to all of us.
Seems you dodged a similarly awkward situation, Denise!
Maybe a girl wants to be asked before the ring goes on? He was rather assuming a lot, just putting it on her. Nicely told tale.
Indeed, he jumped the gun!
maybe he was dreaming?
That’s a thought!
Oh dear. Independent women do not need to explain themselves, and so misunderstandings abound.
I like how seamless the change of direction in your story manifested.
Thanks James, I quite agree!
Oh no! Must be very confusing for him.
No doubt about that!
😂🤓
Oh! That was a sad end to s beautiful evening.
It was, I really felt sorry for him!
Dear Keith,
Aw poor fellow. You leave us all wondering why. Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Even I was left wondering, Rochelle! Thanks so much.
That’s very sad, but I suppose it is best she said nothing to add salt to the wound. Fantastic writing, Keith!
You could well be right, Brenda. Thanks so much.
It’s a shame. Maybe try again another evening? Or perhaps she’d prefer to pick her own ring. Still, very sad.
They certainly need to have a chat!
Well, that’s a bit off. How rude! Well told 😊
Just a bit! Thanks so much.
Why indeed? So terribly sad, love the audio too
We’ll never know! Thank you so much.
Oooh, wondering…
So is he, no doubt!
Poor guy, communication is not his strong suit. At least she didn’t take the ring and left.
That’s true!
How many times had she told him she was not interested in marriage.?
Some guys just don’t listen and then this happens and they are all confused.
