Henrietta is pretty quick on her claws, she’s the Usain Bolt of the poultry world! She took up running having witnessed numerous accidents involving chickens slowly crossing the road, and was determined never to suffer the same fate. Not that she often crosses over, just occasionally because she’s always wondered why others did it. She still has no idea!
She saw a duck standing on the verge the other day, its head darting this way and that to make sure there were no vehicles approaching. Henrietta advised him not to cross the road, ‘if you do, you’ll never hear the last of it’, she said.
She had a steady mate for a while, Bruce the Roost she called him. He was not the most pleasant of partners, forever ruffling her feathers and leaving her feeling henpecked. In the end she told him to cluck off. She doesn’t fancy another ongoing relationship, nowadays any cock-a-doodle-‘l-do!
Her egg laying skills are pretty amazing too. She pops them out like balls from a canon! She’s raised a few chicks over the years, which reminds me of the yoke she likes to crack; why did the chicken cross the playground? … to get to the other slide!
So, don’t be surprised if you’re out for a jog and get overtaken by a hen, when it comes to running Henrietta’s better!
