Six Sentences – a day late!

,

Sorry for the delay, I’ve had a busy few days, especially yesterday which was my birthday! But, as they say, better late than never – although I’ll leave you to be the judge of that.

Ted was telling his fellow farmers about something that happened this morning, “I was in the field with my cows, and a girl who was walking along the footpath called me over and asked me why  some cows have horns and some don’t, I told her that it depends on the breed and even then, we remove the horns of some to protect the young, then she pointed across the field  and asked why that one was hornless, ‘because it’s a horse’, I said”.

“Talking of breeding”, said Arthur, “my daughter’s expecting again, I’ve already got seven grandkids, I don’t need any more, and to make matters worse she’s having twins; she told me she’s thinking of calling one of them Kate after her Granny and she asked what I thought she should call the other one, I suggested Duplikate!”

“Time goes fast” said shepherdess Babs, “before you know it, it’ll be time for my flock to breed  again, the rams are already looking around to see what’s on offer, I swear I saw one wink at a sheep the other day; this spring I had thirty seven lambs in my field to keep under control” – “there were forty when you rounded them up!”, punned Colin.

…and he was off – “some cows have bells because their horns don’t work – I once tried to breed rabbits, it was a hare-raising experience – my hairdresser breeds dogs, shampoodles – the cow that stopped producing milk was an udder failure – some cows have a sense of humour, they are the laughing stock – what breed of horses are nocturnal? nightmares….”

When she’s not knitting, Brenda makes bread, “I like nothing more than baking baguettes and serving them warm with molten brie like a like a cheesy bruschetta”, she said; Polly liked the sound of that, so much so that started to dribble, “I love bread”, she said, “you should bring us some of yours, my favourite is…now what is it called…focaccia” – “bless you”, shouted Suzie from the next table – “watch your language” said Landlord Len!

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, but Len has a teenage granddaughter, Hazel’s her name, she helps out sometimes by delivering meals in the eating area, and clearing tables; the customers love her, she’s  clearly well bred, extremely polite and constantly smiling, the older eaters say she reminds them of Len’s dearly departed Maggie when she was young, Len thinks that too.

My husband had ancestors, probably around his great grandparents, and they had twins, obviously not knowing ahead of time and I’m telling the truth that they named them Pete and Repeat

Colin’s puns are the best, but I especially liked how Ted had to explain that the hornless cow was a horse.
